Good analysis of the moves so far:

the Lamar being part of the Strus deal is, for the immediate future, a positive if only because JBB will be forced to go to spacing options and discouraged from the quick hook (ideally). Strus is good because as he is not a guy who needs the ball, if you see they're packing the paint with Okoro in the line up, you can just do that swap. And not have to go to LeVert who is ideally the 6-man off the bench.

The eventual role Sexton would have played if he stayed, but making less than Sexton currently is, while being taller and an improved defender.

Avoiding the 3-guard line up combos involving Donovan/Darius/LeVert/Rubio by having these two proven shooters who don't stop the ball is a W.

the salary levels, number of years, everything lines up nicely for the team and won't hamstring them if tougher decisions are needed in a season or two.
I’m hopeful that this team will be ready to contend, once we fire JBB after next year’s failure and trade Allen and maybe Mitchell for pieces that fit better. The biggest problem is that there were a lot of good coaches available, this off-season, and there is no guarantee it will be that way after next season.

I was also high on Bryant. Clearly making the league minimum in Miami is better then most other places because no state taxes and nice weather during the winter. And rumors of Mo Bamba going to Chicago or back to Lakers. Are Cavs gonna be stuck with Moe Wagner?

Wagner is going back to Orlando to play in his little brothers shadow...

I think my point is different though. I think someone may have taken Cedi in for another expiring. Teams with cap space just know that if they take someone in they have to get an asset with that player. It's basically the roadmap to rebuild now. The market is basically set that if you are trying to dump a player into cap space that you have to give up an asset.

Even with teams having to get up to 90% of the cap by the first day of the regular season, there is still just a limited amount of teams that have cap space to absorb players. OKC basically created the blueprint for absorbing players into cap space and to flip them, just get an asset to absorb and get an asset when you flip them, rinse and repeat. The bar is just high to not take an asset when absorbing a player.

It goes without saying that teams with cap space - usually the ones who aren't expected to make the playoffs - want compensation. That was the whole Chris Grant era in Cleveland. I thought you were defending the claim that Cedi is the best player in the trade, which never made any sense.

I mean. I don't think he cares about being in his brother's shadow. Being able to be a professional athlete and be on the same team as your brother has to be special.

With solid guys like Bryant, Bamba, Eubanks, etc., available [or were] and a backup true big being a serious need.. there's really no excuse to not come out of this with another true useful big.. come on FO. Hoping to not play the Knicks again or hoping neither of JA or Mobley miss time better not be their plan.

Cedi isn't a better player than Strus. I just didn't think saying we had to add an asset to Cedi is a reason to prove Strus is the better player. I think we would have to add an asset to Strus too even if he was on an expiring and we wanted to dump him. The level of player and how good the contract they are on is just so high of a bar for a cap space team to just absorb them that they are just so far and few between to make it a point to prove how good or bad a player is.

Interest around the league dictates value, bottom line. It's why Max Strus went from a possible MLE candidate to the 63 million dollar man in a few weeks.

Damian Jones wasn't on my radar but he is a certainly a guy who fits the profile of the Cavs current bigs and can run with the pack unlike RoLo. 2.9M, not bad for a backup C. No assets lost. Money left over for emergency.

At this point, I give Koby an A- for the moves he's made thus far. If he actually pursues Watford as a Lamar-level replacement.... that A- becomes an A+.

Bobby Marks said we are hard capped so Koby might want to see if he can work the Cavs into a multi team trade before using up anymore salary space we have. If we can pick up an asset while picking up a backup big, its worth exploring because of our lack of assets.

I don't think we are over the second apron though are we? Isn't that hard capped?

It's the first apron (I thought it was the luxury tax line when I made the previous post). I do think that Koby wants to see if we can make a trade and pick up an asset before signing players into that space since we probably don't want to go over the luxury tax line.

Using the full MLE apparently hard caps a team. Also making a sign and trade also does. By hard capped, we just can't exceed the first apron now. Like I said I thought it was the luxury tax line which would have made it more relevant but if a trade comes along that we want to exceed the first apron we won't be able to do so.
