Cavs have the following--

$2M left of MLE
$4.5M left of BAE
$3.9 Trade Exception

2 roster spots but 3 if you waive Merrill..

They're about $3.4M under the luxury tax and $10M away from the hard cap which they can't go over this year..

I'd waive Merrill and offer the BAE to Mo Bamba or Christian Wood. Team could still use another shooting true big. Niang can do it for spurts, but shouldn't rely on him to do it frequently. Or approach Lakers about a sign and trade of Bamba for a pick and trade exception.

I'm with you. Grant is a useful player, but the years are almost as bad as the number. That is the kind of contract you may have to end up attaching to assets to rid yourself of if things don't go great (and for that kind of money, you should expect a great player).

Speaking of which, we should all be thankful Caris signed a very reasonable contract that is extremely movable if the time ever came to do so. He had us over a barrel, in truth. Cavs couldn't afford to lose the asset for nothing and his camp had all the leverage. He could've pulled a 2016 Tristan Thompson type move, albeit an obviously different set of circumstances. We all knew TT probably wasn't worth that much money on the open market, but we couldn't afford to lose him for nothing.

I'm guessing this is the reason the Blazers were forced to overpay, too.

So, big shout out to Caris Levert for not overplaying his hand and putting us in a bad spot.
There was no probably about it. EVERYONE knew TT wasn't worth that deal. It was definitely a lie back and think of England moment.

They're not going into the tax this year for a BAE signing, nor should they. They need to postpone the start of the repeater tax clock as long as possible.

Who are you counting? I got:

DG, Rubio
Mitchell, LeVert
Strus, Wade
Mobley, Niang
JA, Jones

Okoro, Jerome, iMobley, Bates

That's 14 spots.

You are forgetting Merrill. iMobley and Bates will most likely be on two way contracts.

Yep. Portland will find themselves in a similar situation that Washington was in with Beal. It’s almost impossible for the club to get fair value in a trade when the player holds all the cards. Miami will get their third star for $0.50 on the $1.00.
Dame doesn't have a no-trade clause and the Blazers publicly announced they're taking the best deal. He could've made his demand the day after the draft, but instead he waited until they gave that dumb contract to Grant. Pretty sure they're pissed about it.

I've seen something that suggests the demand was made on Monday, though it wasn't immediately reported...

The tweet I saw, I can't find on account of that site being in the can today -- but someone smarter than me thought that what that really did was undercut any sense that the Grant contract makes

I got this by years end.

Pg - Mitchell, Rubio
SG - Strus, LeVert
SF - Brown, Wade
PF - Niang, I. Mobley
C - E. Mobley, Jones

Garland gets traded for Brown from Celtics. This team becomes a deep playoffs team.

No idea how you figured that being a deep playoff team. That team wouldn't even get a play-in spot in last year's Eastern conference.

Yeah, Perk said that shit but people are pretty skeptical, mostly because Perk has zero sources within the Blazers front office, it's contradicted by earlier reporting by folks who do have sources, and the Blazers publicly said the demand was made today.
