2023-24 Season | Game #52 | Sixers @ Cavs | Feb. 12, 2024 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Philly played small and fast. Without Wade we had Niang getting those minutes and he got exposed

Yeah, this would be the concern come playoff time should Mobley or Allen get into foul trouble. Niang can’t be counted on to log extended minutes against most opponents. Without Wade there’s just no real depth there.

That last play was pretty shit. Lucky that Garland even got a look to win it off of a loose ball. Garland will catch flack and he probably should not just for this miss, but the totality of him not delivering late in games. Like it or not, you get paid max money, the expectation is that you aren't a negative at the end of games.
The reality is if you sign a 200 million dollar deal, and are supposed to be an elite shooter, you have a 200 million dollar expectation to not clank a wide open corner 3 for the win. The criticism comes with the contract

I’m not liking what’s happening with Sammy, his minutes are shrinking and he’s being paired with garland instead of Mitchell
Unfortunately none of our intrepid press corps asked about why no Merrill in the second half during the post game interview session with JBB

Going in to this season I thought Mobley turning the corner offensively was the key to unlocking championship potential. He came back from injury and has resolved that question… meanwhile Garland came back from injury and has me questioning if he can be a max contact caliber guy.

Weird to me that Mobley came back sharper on offense after a knee injury and Garland came back covered in rust with a jaw injury. I’m sure diet (or lack thereof) with the jaw injury contributes to strength and conditioning. Just wild to see two guys with dofferent injuries with a similar timeline come back in two totally different places mentally and physically.
I don’t mean to out you in particular but this doesn’t surprise me at all. If you have jaw surgery to repair a broken jaw, you literally can’t do anything. You can’t risk having the stitches fall apart due to physical activity. Besides obviously not eating solid food, I’m guessing he literally could not do anything for 6 weeks.

I’m expecting this All Star break to have the most impact (in a good way) for Garland. He can work on conditioning and get his shot back. He clearly doesn’t have any legs still

LOL.

Over the last month, sources say Garland hasn’t been able to work out at all, with team doctors not allowing him to get his heart rate up as a result of the injury. Because of that -- and an all-liquid diet that he started to get used to thanks to blended smoothies out of a straw -- sources say Garland will need at least a week to ramp up and get back into playing shape.

Embiid or not, Sixers have some some really really solid pieces. Maxey is a star in the making, Oubre, Hield, Payne gave some solid minutes tonight. They're well coached and fighting to not fall out of this thing entirely. We never really matched their desperation until the end and still somehow had a chance to win . . .

The defensive drop-off is so blatant with Niang. This sort of thing gets even more exposed come playoff time, so let's hope Wade doesn't get sick or hurt then, too. The comeback at the end was impressive, but it wasn't enough. While I'm glad I watched, I'm not surprised at the result, sadly. Can't really afford to lose a guy like Wade when playing a team like the Sixers who have so many weapons on offense.

Well if they have that many weapons on offense missing Embiid and Harris then they’re a dangerous team if they get Joel back.

We just waited too long to get serious on defense. Missing Wade didn’t help either.

Strus’s was unnecessary as well. He knew that was an over and back. Showboated/showed up the refs by doing that toss back

That’s two points right there

Shit, even the correctly called quick foul after Donovan pulled the game to 1 point was unlucky as Strus stole the subsequent pass.

But still, had no business giving up 66 first half points and playing from behind score wise and energy wise to the Sixers w out Embiid and Harris

Waving off the red was unnecessary, but I think he threw the ball back thinking Philly would take it under the basket. Didn’t necessarily seem like it was purposely thrown that way out of frustration.

Yeah, I'm not too upset about DG taking and missing that shot.

Thanks, I’m misremembering the play then. So he didn’t get the technical for the throwback?

Inexcusable that he didn’t play Wade tonight

(Trolling, Dean was inactive tonight due to illness in the event anyone was unaware. As stated in several other posts, believe it was a mistake to not play Merrill in his usual age third quarter/early 4th quarter shift)
I was unaware although I felt we weren't using certain players more..and yes I felt coach tightened up the rotation against a team that he shouldn't have done so.
Niang shouldn't have gotten all those minutes that he did.

Seems like a little too much angst and anguish is being had over this one..

Really boiled down to the Cavs picking a bad night to have a bad night defensively, and the Sixers shotmaking being way above their heads...

The Cavs were to get some things going late but it was a little too late at that point with how the Sixers had been playing offensively..

As Daugherty was saying all night, just one of those games you have to find a way to win and the Cavs had a chance to do so in the end...
