Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.) - no truth per Windy tweet

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

G-Force is another Ariza and Artest. We were targeting both of them, it makes sense now that were trying to make a trade for Wallace. Im all for it. With West, Wallace, and Z could give us the best bench in the EAST.

Square peg, meet round hole...

Pre-Shaq trade, trading for Gerald Wallace would have made some sense but after the Shaq trade and already having an offensive player like LeBron James, spacing is a key, key element and Wallace can't provide that..

The Cavs already have two players with inconsistent jumpers (Andy and LeBron) and that is enough with Shaq on the team...Adding another player with an inconsistent, non-existent jumper doesn't make much sense at all..

On top of that, I have serious concerns about Wallace's injury history (one bad concussion away from retirement) and that combined with his contract should be enough to warrant some caution... I don't want to be taking on that type of contract when it's that long...

Wallace could give us the swing forward that we've been looking for but his ability to play the PF position is hampered by his inability to stay healthy there... Most of his problems staying healthy have been because he's played a lot of PF, which is just too much for Wallace physically..

Wallace is a talented player who could help but I really don't see where he would fit into this team... Defense? Yes he'd fit here... But offense? No, not at all.

Wallace offers some nice things to the Cavs but his negatives really do outweigh his positives for this current team..

Let's also not forget that Wallace doesn't exactly go along with Danny's plan for 2010 cap space (even though it doesn't seem possible)...

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

Wallace is a type of player who can create his own shots, usually in the paint. Why wouldnt we want a player who can create shots for himself? and his defense is solid.

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

meh, concussions arent something that having a previous one, will happen again ( like a sprained ankle)

not on the g-force bandwagon.

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

Wallace would be our Posey/Pietrus role just at a more expensive price.

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

I wonder if we will hear any other confirmation outside of the Finnan rumor

He had to hear it somewhere since he posted it publicly no?

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

whats wrong with wallace off the bench. great defensive presence, effective scorer off the bench... i would love to get him

Hoopsworld heard it from Finnan who heard it from ESPN who did nothing but speculate based on RCF trade rumor threads. :chuckles:

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

Wallace would be fantastic is we could get a stretch PF (maybe even Frye or Smith...) to get signed and start.

Wallace isn't a terrible shooter when open, but off the bench he could do so much more with Wally/Sasha's minutes than Wally/Sasha ever could. Great defender, great athlete, could hit some open shots for us but won't be very reliable.

We needed a player that could move Delonte to the bench with his versatility and shooting range. We signed Parker. Since Artest and Ariza are gone, Wallace is the only combo forward left we could get really. At the price of Wally and a back broken young nobody... why not?

People, I understand how important it is to space the floor, but I don't see Wallace as our stretch forward or our starting 2, so that doesn't concern me. How much worse could he be than Wally off the bench?

True, but would you want to pay that guy who is "not worse than Wally" $10 mil/year? Doubt it.

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

I'm also not ready to give up on a potential future piece in JJ Hickson.. I think there's a reason that pretty much every GM kept asking about Hickson and whenever we've been in trade talks, Hickson's name has been included..

Giving up on Hickson would be the classic case on giving up on a guy way too soon... Hickson was taken in the 1st round under the assumption that it would take a few years for him to develop and get molded into a player that could contribute... Now all of a sudden everybody forgets that, wants to trade him and doesn't care about that any more... WTF?

I understand the need to get better right now but I'd be much more comfortable with getting a guy like Linas Kleiza or Matt Barnes, who are comparable players to Wallace considering the price and injuries, and not giving up on Hickson..

I want to see what Hickson turns out to be... I want to at least give him a chance over the next few years to see what he can do before we completely give up on him... It's only been one freakin' year since we acquired him... Not a whole lot of rookies picked at #19 contribute on a championship contending team, let alone 19 year olds..

If Hickson were a guard or a wing then I wouldn't have as big of a problem, but finding skilled, athletic, potential filled bigs is not very easy to find..

I also understand Hickson's back is an issue but W&G mentioned that it's not the type of injury that will become a constant issue or something that will flare up again.. .It's a one time thing that isn't too worry about in the future..

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

Joel, Ben, Douglar or someon can check my figures but I think its right. Financially it makes a lot of sense. Assuming Gerald Wallace picks up his player option he is due $41,025,000 over the next 4 years. Assuming all options get picked up and the Qualifying Offer is extended to Hickson he is due $8,670,224 over the next 4 years. To make the deal work Wally would have to get around 6 million which the Bobcats could then let expire at the end of the year or use for the expiring contract in a trade. Assuming they let Wally expire the Bobcats would save approximately 26 million dollars and get to add a young PF prospect from ACC country who most in the Cavs organization are extremely high on.

I certainly dont know about Charlotte's financial situation but 26 million dollars is nothing to sneeze at. On top of that I could definately see Gilbert allowing Ferry to throw in the 3 million maximum in cash that is allowed to be included in a trade, which would bump the total to just under 30 million dollars.

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

On the Cavs Wallace would be great in a Posey/Pietrus type of role and a legitimate LeBron back up. We never had one of those.

Re: Gerald Wallace Hoopshype Rumor (pg 4.)

I think wallace should start if we could possibly get him. This will make boobie dispensable if this happens and will make a more defined role with Delonte as our back up pg together with parker as our bench back court. WE will have insane depth if this could happen. If parker will be through a sign and trade it will be more lovely since we still have our full MLE and BAE to spend. I love this if this would happen. Just look at our depth:

PG: MO/Delonte
SG: WAllace/Parker
SF: LeGOD/wallace/Kleiza?/green
PF: AV/Darnell/Frye?/Kleiza?
C: Shaq/ Z

The only problem with that starting five is that Mo is the only one who can hit jump shots consistently.LOL
