I think these are the four spots up for grabs. I think you have guys like Klay, Kyrie, Love, Aldridge, Kobe (not talent, but reputation), Carmelo, Drummond, Lillard, Wall, Butler, etc. Now, all of these guys are not necessarily interested, but the point still stands. I think you are right, it is a super competitive year, will be interesting to see who gets the spots.

I dont want Draymond playing for team USA, even if he could perform well. He just has the whole "ugly American" thing down too well. Its okay (kinda) for the gangster NBA style, against other NBA players, but seeing him do his wild chest thumping act in a game against some team like Japan when the USA is up by 70 would just be too much. Kind of like Charles Barkley elbowing some skinny Angloan player ( http://uproxx.com/dimemag/we-reminisce-charles-barkley-elbows-angolan-player/ ) - Draymond seems to me like he would do something like that.

But then, I am over sensitive to this because I am American living overseas (actually been in 25 separate countries) and I sometimes I am just embarrassed. (Trump isn't helping ATM either, but I dont want this thread to digress into politics)

Now that I think about it, Draymond reminds me of a young Charles Barkley

Kyrie was the MVP of the last team usa squad, it seems reasonable to think he makes this team.

I agree! Olympics is all about sportsmanship.

USA Basketball trimmed the list to 30 today:

The five cuts:

5 cuts made to the team U.S.A roster today.

Very interested to see how the roster shakes out as I can see scenarios in which most of those guys could be on the team.

The way I see it:
1) Lebron James
2) Carmelo Anthony
3) LaMarcus Aldridge
4) Jimmy Butler
5) DeMarcus Cousins
6) Steph Curry
7) Anthony Davis
8) Kevin Durant
9) Draymond Green
10) James Harden
11) Kyrie Irving
12) Kawhi Leonard
13) Chris Paul
14) Klay Thompson
15) Russell Westbrook

That leads to this:
PG: Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry, Kyrie Irving
SG: Jimmy Butler, James Harden, Klay Thompson
SF: Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Carmelo Anthony
PF: Anthony Davis, Draymond Green, LaMarcus Aldridge
C: DeMarcus Cousins

Russ, Steph, and Kawhi can all play both guard positions. Shooting guard position is pretty self explanatory. Lebron and Carmelo can both play power forward/ And Anthony Davis and Draymond Green can also play center. I think we only need one center, and my bet is that is Boogie, because a lot of the international teams play small.

The first group out is Andre Drummond, Paul George, and Blake Griffin. Frankly, the reason I wouldn't include them is we have players already on the team that do it better. Fortunately, many of the guys won't end up playing. I wouldn't be surprised to see half of my fifteen decide not to play, and that opens the door for a bunch of these other guys.

Rumors Christian Laettner is in.

I'd do that, except personally, take James Harden and/or LMA off the roster for one of Drummond or Jordan. And perhaps put Blake in place of the other. Not trying to hate on James Harden, but he is still more of a 1v1 player over a team player and would be reduced to mostly a spot up shooter, and he plays zero defense. Problem is, he will probably make the team anyway just because of the talent.

But I'd like for one of Drummond or Jordan to play just to have a big for that rim protection and rebounding. Not that AD can't get the job done, but it's my preference to have another in case we need it. LMA is better than Blake, but it is about a wash. I just want to see everyone ooping Blake for the showtime factor.

They are only allowed 12 players sweet cheeks

Ahh, didn't realize that. Thanks hun.

On that note I'd take off Harden, Aldridge, and Thompson. It really is a good class, and at the same time, it really doesn't matter who makes it. We probably win it all either way.

Kyrie isn't going to make it this time.

With Paul/Westbrook/Curry mortal locks baring injury issues Kyrie is probably going to be held off until 2020. He's the youngest of that group so he is the one they will leave out and then take over for Paul.

Lebron/George/Leonard/Durant/Harden/Davis also seem to be locks I would think.

Melo might get one last shot with this being his swan song having played on a few other gold medal teams.

Draymond makes it I think because of his versatility and ability to defend. He is a glue guy type that will pass/rebound/defend and be fine without needing lots of shots.

Aldridge or Griffin is likely in as a PF, but not both.

Finally the 12th guy would be either Boogie or Drummond as the "center" of the group. I could see them leaning Drummond because he is more apt to be OK with being a garbage man around the hoop that is out there primarily to defend and rebound.
