2024 NBA Playoffs: First Round

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nah, I've just lived all over the country and NY fans are just the most obnoxious I have ever run into. Which is an amazing statement given that Boston fans exist.

I root for all NY teams to fail. Equal opportunity hate.

Present company excluded, of course.
Yup. Being from (and living in) NJ Knicks fans arrogance is just ridiculous. They think they deserve to win, and that every other city is a terrible place lol. It's very hard to root for them when you observe their fanbase. Though, it's kind of funny when the team sucks because they get really excited that (insert FA or draft pick here) is going to change everything - which never happens. You kind of feel bad for them because die hard Knicks fans are some of the most passionate - and to give them credit, they are loyal. But when the team is good, Knicks fans are even more unsufferable. The attitude is best summed up by those videos showing the Knicks fans act on the street after playoff games.

I went to a couple of Yankees games and just observing how the fans behaved, they seemed so entitled and arrogant. The Mets, not nearly as much.

LMFAO......hilarious. That's quite the opposite of how Knicks fans act in the forums I frequent. They are excited as hell for the current team but seem like they are always waiting for something bad to happen. I don't see any "America's team" type talk but again I know, it's cool to hate the Knicks.

Forums never reflect the general tone of the fan base, and you’re unlikely to recognize it already being in the fan base.

They are definitely ESPN's Team

Just happened upon this when I wanted to look up some Hart to Jr. alley oops

LOL again but whatever. As I stated earlier, I love how much the Knicks are in your heads.

And put aside your Knicks hatred for a moment. Are you going to tell me it's not a good story? Franchise was a clown show for 2 decades. They built the team through the draft, smart trades and smart FA signings. Were a MASH unit for a good chunk of the season but kept winning. They didn't go team up a bunch of superstars. They didn't trade 3/4 of their assets (cough, cough Cleveland) for a star. They built a TEAM.

I think the Knicks are a franchise that most fans want to see struggle.

Even if the Yankees suck for 30 years, I know I wouldn't ever want to see them get good "because it's a good story."

Lakers, Celtics, Knicks. I'll never shed a tear because they're bad.

(Also, you don't get to talk about how the Knicks didn't trade away a ton of assets for Donovan Mitchell.... when they were actively trying to trade away a ton of assets for Donovan Mitchell)

Blame my dad.
LOL, our parents can definitely influence our sports team loyalties.

My late mama was an absolute Celtics nut, so I always have a soft spot for them even though so many people loathe the Celtics. She grew up first watching the Minneapolis Lakers with George Mikan (my maternal line is mainly from Minnesota; I was even born there), and then watching Bill Russell and the Celtics. She always especially hated the Lakers for not honoring Mikan like she thought they should have, and also for being the main rival for the Celtics. So on top of not being able to hate the C's, the Lakers have also always annoyed me. I'm rather indifferent to the Knicks.

Oh I know they were. Difference is they were smart enough to realize it would have gutted the roster and all their assets. That is one of the reasons the Knicks were such a clown show for 20 years is because they kept chasing those types of players and never had draft picks left to build a team properly. Thank God Leon Rose had the self restraint to not make the move. And I guess thank Danny Ainge for being such a douche and trying to fleece every last drop out of NY.

And as I have stated more than once, I get it it's cool to hate the Knicks.

Stop pretending to be a Cavs fan or to have ever been a Cavs fan. Stop using words like “our”

And the thought exercise is if he would have committed and followed through to finish his career in Cleveland, not what the specific 2019 roster would have been. With an actual commitment beyond 2-3 years, they would have been able to re-shape things, rule the East for several more years and likely win a few more championships

His loss just as much as ours

Come on man. Nobody who is a regular poster here should have their bona fides as a Cavs fan questioned. This place is by definition entirely populated by pathological Cavs obsessives. We accept you @JMoneyYourHoney, one of us!

I might have pushed a bit too far but if you’ve read several of his recent posts, it calls in to question to true nature of whether he’s actually a Cavs fan, vs someone who latched on due to a specific player only or something who has actively rooted against and has disdain for the Cavs over multiple consecutive seasons now.

To be fair, I can definitely see how the acrid nature of a lot of my posts could be construed as me just being here to pick on the Cavs or any of Cleveland's sports teams, but the truth is, I'm just a bitter, jaded ex but native Clevelander who didn't shed his LeBron fandom when he moved on.

Things aren't so black and white as a lot of posters here want to make them; as difficult and irreconcilable as it may be to some, it's possible to still (agonizingly) support the team while wanting LeBron to succeed. Since we're in separate conferences and different trajectories of our teams, its' actually rather easy to do. I want LeBron to win another ring...just not at the expense of the Cavs. From my end, I'd really like to try to understand the psychology of the posters who championed this guy as the GOAT and celebrated the lone ring he played a big part in us achieving, only to make it a mission to undermine him at every turn. Reeks of jealousy, pettiness and insecurity, and I don't lack that objectivity bone.

And yes, I've criticized a lot of the FO's decisions...specifically in regards to the Mitchell trade, but if we can dominate the Magic convincingly and give the Celtics hell, I'll at least feel a bit better about things.

Laker hater(“stuck” in Southern California for 20 years now) so it’s an odd place for me as I have always maintained extreme Cavs fandom while never holding a grudge against LeBron after maybe the first 1-2 years in MIA and in fact actively liking appreciating all phases of LeBrons career. But my fandom started well before LeBron and has always been vast and addictive, since the first time I heard Joe Tait on the radio calling games(pre Nance trade, Harper was still on the team, maybe even Bagley’s last year so I’m thinking maybe 86)

Your post answered some questions/illuminated my understanding and apologies for going to the nuclear. I wasn’t saying that your style of fandom was invalid or lesser, I was literally wondering/questioning if you were a Cavs fan vs say a Heat fan that followed LeBron when he came back here.

Either way, it’s a big tent, we all don’t have the same approach/opinuons, but anyone who is a Cavs fan is a friend in my book.
