Fedor had a podcast. Not much of note but there were a few things.
Most of the players are talking about the goal being to win a playoff series. A few mentioned the "C" word, but generally there's a sense they need to start by taking "the next step". It's easier to go from bad to good than from good to great, so it gets harder from here.
Last year the Cavs went from being a play-in team to the 4th seed. Some feel it happened quicker and more smoothly than expected and there wasn't much adversity last year, which didn't help in the playoffs. Bickerstaff is planning on trying to put them in more "uncomfortable" situations this year so they learn to get "comfortable with the uncomfortable".
Donovan Mitchell did a ton of things in the off-season to get ready for this year. He recruited Strus, Niang, and Jerome. He organized two players' mini-camps. He was in constant contact with the coaches about how the scheme will change this year. Mitchell is very happy and has a high level of belief in the organization.
Darius Garland took the loss to the Knicks hard and was in the weight room all the time. He resented getting posted up by the Knicks and realizes that with Strus replacing Okoro at the 3 he will have to guard some of the big guards that Okoro checked last year, like James Harden, for example. Fedor expects to see "a different Darius Garland this year".
Even Mobley said his goal is to make the All-Star team this year but the numbers are stacked against him with Embiid, Giannis, Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, Jayson Tatum, Pascal Siakam, and others in the front court.
The Cavs are making a clear committment to changing and diversifying their offense and not being so dependent on the pick-and-roll, although with DG and DM being so proficient it will continue to be a big part of the offense.
