You people make it sound like he had a reconstructive surgery on the spinal cord. It was a herniated disc and a pinched nerve... those are fairly common. Its not degenerative, its not fatal, its not something that should even bother him next year, it was a herniated disc and pinched nerve!

Here is what they said about Pippen at the time:

"Pippen will have a hard time coming back from his back surgery. Pippen also didn't have a very good rookie season, shooting poorly, committing too many turnovers, and generally looking like a lost rookie. He did have some decent defensive numbers, but hasn't established much of a defensive reputation. "

So maybe E-light is on to something.

Luke's back injury wasn't as serious as Larry Johnson's or Larry Bird's. He should be able to come back at the level he was before the injury.

I don't expect Luke to come in and star next season but he can be a big contributer and key part of the rotation next season. His game is very versatile. Not only is he a solid perimeter shooter but he can drive to the hole, handle, pass and create.
There will be an adjustment period since it will be basically his rookie season but he'll be ahead of where a rookie usually is since he has been around the league for a year already and has seen what it takes to play in the league. Jackson could be a strong possibility for a 6th man role and scorer off the bench next year if the Cavs can add a FA SG

Its a shock to me, after reading that article, that Luke was able to do anything at all last year.

I'm expecting Luke to come back with something to prove next year.
