1st round - 63-60 win over Vermont
- CSU raced out to a 19-12 lead, then Vermont went on a 13-2 run and lead most of the way. This is despite Vermont not having their leading scorer, who I swear looked like Ringo Starr, circa 1968.
- Aaron Pogue made his 1st 2 FTs, then made 3 of his next 12. Yes. 5-15. Also, CSU players not named Cole went 11/35 from the field. Norris had 27 pts on 17 FGA and 6 FTA.
- CSU couldn't do jack against Vermont in half court. Granted, once they saw Pogue couldn't hit a FT, they did some "hack a Pogue". But they went with a zone all night, Cole couldn't penetrate, and noone else could hit a shot.
- Luka Ndaye had 5 boards in 8 minutes. Pogue had 8 in 31, Kamczyc had 1 in 49, Latas had 0 in 9. How he doesn't play more baffles me. Whatever other deficiencies he might have, CSU is such a bad rebounding team (45-29 tonight), he has to get minutes.
- If you are of the "foul up 3 under 5 seconds left" mindset, you loved the ending. CSU up 3 with 4.4 seconds left, and Vermont's ball 94 feet from the basket, Waters calls timeout and tells his team not foul. The result was a 3 that nearly went in and forced OT. Discuss.
- CSU is now a combined 2-2 in NCAA/NIT Tourney games under Waters. Prior to Waters, they had played a total 7 postseason games, all under Kevin Mackey in a 3 year stretch.
- Next up: Hosting College of Charleston next week. Charleston handled Dayton 94-84.
