FIESTA BOWL: OSU v. TEXAS

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Does anyone think Tressel is overrated? If it wasn't for that late pass interference call vs Miami, the guy would be known for not being able to win the big one by now.

If this is a resume of an overrated coach, then who isn't overrated?

During his coaching tenure at Ohio State Jim Tressel is tied for most BCS appearances.

Looks like a damn good coach to me.

I gotta blame the game on clock management with Tressel on the last TD. That, and a few boneheaded plays by Pryor.

The second FG we got, Pryor had a great run on second down that could have picked up a first down inside the 5 yard line. Instead, he ran out of bounds to avoid any contact, we got stuffed on third down and settled for a FG. I know he's only a freshman, but its the last game of the season man... you gotta at least try for that first down.

It's Tressel's fault that Herron broke free on a 20 yard run to score a TD?

Now most players are too selfish and just not smart enough to think of this (unless your Brian Westbrook), but Herron should have just fell down on the 2 yard line. OSU could have kneed it twice, then tried running in a TD or just kicking a FG from the 3 yard line. Oh well though, I guess that is too much to ask of someone to be smart and athletically gifted.

You put the points on the board. What happens when we fumble a snap or get the FG blocked? Even then, some time would have been left on the clock and they would have only needed a FG to win. Herron did the right thing; he found the crease and he took it to the house to get the points on the board. You never, ever just do that.

Also, great Brian Westbrook analogy; it was different because all they had to do was knee the ball out to win the game, not score anymore points, whereas OSU still had to put points on the board.

That's something you do in a video game, but you rarely see it in real life. If OSU had stopped at the two and knelled twice, Texas would have been left with either very little time or only 1 timeout. I think OSU wins if they do kneel the ball, but no one is thinking about that when they're running to the endzone.

That is very true, but they should be thinking about it.

And I know the Westbrook situation was different, but if you dont have faith in your FG unit in making a FG from the 2 yard line, then you shouldn't be coaching.

I would have much more faith in my kicker making a 17 yard FG than the defense having to stop Colt McCoy with 2 plus minutes left.

I'm hearing now that Pryor had a hurt shoulder from practice which explains a lot. Any validity to this?

well that would explain why he couldn't throw the ball worth shit....his arm did look really weak, he could barely throw 8 yard passes
