I'm not going to get into the whole argument "should we trade gooden", but for all of you who say we should trade him b/c we won't be able to resign him next year, that may not be true:

"My main three goals are to be an All-Star, an Olympian, and to win an NBA championship," Gooden said. "All the money that you can make in the NBA won't amount to any of those three."

If he thinks the Cavs are on the path to an NBA Championship, he might resign.

Having said that, the smart money still says he goes to the highest bidder!

The only way he is an all star is if he learns to play defense, the only way he plays in the olympics are if it's held in baghdad and no one else will go, the only way he wins a title is not if anyone builds around him but if he goes to the Spurs next year.

considering drew's thinking capability-- we might be able to trick him with a whole bunch of numbers ?

just tell him:

GM: "DREW this is a big contract" sign it..

DRULOS GOOZER: "ummmm, gee i don't know" i'm looking for big time money (I'M A BEAST) ha ha ha ha" ;)

GM: "fine how about we write in another #9 on the end of that amount"

GOOZER: "where do i sign" ?

contract layout

4 years-- 20 million 500 hundred thousand--nine dollars..

that my friends is how you hammer out a deal with drew.. "DON'T GET FLEECED"

Ha ha. I'm sure his agent isn't that dumb.

Knowing Drew he probably represents himself..I could imagine it next month..

Ferry: Alright now you tell me what you think is fair and I'll tell you what I think is fair.
Drew(Acting as his agent) Well Drew Gooden had 14 and 10 last year he is a beast on the blocks, so I'm going to say add 14+10 thats 24 divide that by the number I wear so that's the league minimum awesome I'll take it!
Ferry: Um alright great, hey whatever you think is fair.
Drew: Great deal, man I sure saved a bundle by not hiring an agent...
Ferry:Hah yeah, you sure drive a hard bargain.

Or how about this -

Drew (in his best Dr. Evil voice): "One Billion Dollars!"

Man this is a tough crowd.. Why are you cracking on Drew? he is still young and right sized and athletic. That is better than many of the power forwards playing in the league. we aren't getting Kmart, or Garnett or Duncan or Nowitzki, so wo are we going to get to improve? I don't think SAR is an upgrade, nor Walker. So where do you turn..

I refuse to hate of Goober, as he is still the best option we actually have in hand. When we see a deal for a 6'10' 250 mound of bound guy, I will be on board, but for now Drew is the best I can see us with..

^ i agree. drew has lots of potential and will get better

Here's my concern. With Bron, Larry, and Z out there (and possibly Saras) we're going to have at least three, maybe four MAJOR scoring options on the floor. It is very possible that Drew becomes our fifth option on offense. AS we have seen, Drew wants to get involved on offense more than anything.

He is going to HAVE to develop into a role player if he is going to stay with this team. He will have to take fewer shots on offense and focus on defense and rebounding. If Drew goes in with a 12-14 rebound per game, 3 block attitude then he can get close to those numbers. If he goes in with a 20 ppg attitude we are screwed.

this season is going to be a big chance for Drew to prove his commitment to developing his character as a team player.

No one is attacking Drew Gooden's ability. We all know his strengths and weaknesses. Unfortunately his weaknesses are the teams weaknesses as well. He is still young and will likely improve. But as some of these posts have suggested, he isn't the brightest spark. If he still is a Cavalier come season start, his mentality needs an overhaul. If he thinks Silas was tough on him, I believe Brown will be even tighter on his leash.

I think silas was tough on him, but helped his game...And I think Drew respected that. I also think drew and Lebron were among the few who did not get distracted with personal issues at the end of the season. Drew finished hard anyway,in spite of all the hooHaw..That is not to be forgotten..

Again, noone questions his ability and enthusiasm. We question his ability to play into a defensive system and his mental capacity to be consistent in his efforts in that field. You have to be a tough crowd if you want to be the best.

If we want to resign Drew next year when/if the time comes, I think he'll resign, we can offer the most money and Im pretty sure we're going to be over the cap anyway

Only re-sign Drew if he plays extremely well this season. We need players who want to win now, we can't afford to let guys like Drew slowly grow into something useful.

I am OK with that. He is has been inconsistant, no questions, and there were occasional games where he seemed to be somewhere else. I am just saying don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Considering the rest of the crew, I think Drew and Lebron were the most committed to winning. Z was good, but he had games where he did not seem into it, not much to be said about Jmac. I guess I should include Newble for effort as he was improved over 2003-2004, and he gave whatever he had on any given night. Off the bench we had Traylor and Andy to bring it every night, and Snow, but the rest just weren't really involved. (No rag on Pavlovich, he just did not seem commited like Trac and AV)

When you look at teams that win it all, the most obvious characteristic is that everybody is in the game. I would dare you to name a spur or a piston that is a floater in the pool (Maybe Milicic, but look how often he plays...)

Consider Indiana, who pretty much tanked their best players at the beginning of the year and lost Artest for a season, but night after night the scrubs and the old guys brought the A-Game anyway. That is where we need to be....

(sorry for the rant...)
