I drove from Blaine, Kentucky in January 1983 to watch the Cavs play. I stayed in a Holiday Inn probably not there anymore. Watched Moses Malone, Julius Erving and World B. Free play. Cliff Robinson and happy to see play Sam Lacey. Hugh Evans famous official called the game. 7200 was attendance. Steve Hayes for the Cavs was leading scorer in 1977 as his Idaho State team upset UCLA. In June 1976 on a trip to Springfield, Ma. we stopped in the parking lot to the Coliseum and i still have pictures for the West Wing, Front Door and East Wing. Listen to WWWE in the 1970; s and the book Vintage Cavs by Terry Pluto. My seats were 20 rows up across the floor from the visitor's bench.

My first Cavs game was around that time: 1982-83. We had World B. Free carrying the scoring load and Lonnie Shelton. The game was close and we were down 1 with about 10 seconds left. We got the ball to Lonnie Shelton at the free throw line and he spun and drove for a slam and a victory as the buzzer sounded. I'll never forget it. Lonnie was 6 8 and 250 and no one was going to stop him.

World B. Free had a bunch of points. I remember one shot where he was hit in mid-air on the wing, his body leaned diagonally, and he put up a high jumper which swished in.

Was Mike Mitchell still on that team? What about Kenny Carr? Mike Bratz?

I remember being a kid in the 80’s and going to that hotel and seeing the visiting team bus there (if it’s the one I’m thinking)… I used to stand out there or in the hotel (real stalker like) and get autographs on basketball cards and magazines…

It was so easy then. Only a handful of us were ever there and players just signed away…

Only a couple guys were dicks back then… Stockton and Andrew Toney of the Sixers…. Stockton would sign and bitch about it…. Andrew Toney was not a nice dude…
