Pacers Will Lose About $30M This Season

Indiana's Capital Improvement Board revealed on Monday that the Pacers are losing about $30 million this season, and confirmed that the team has lost money every year but two of the 28 years the Simons have owned the team.

The board's vice president, Pat Early, said that the Pacers cannot continue to shoulder the $15 million per year operating costs of Conseco Fieldhouse, the team's downtown arena.

Early added that the team has not threatened to leave, but it could or even shut down if the CIB does not assume those operating costs.

"If we are unable to do this, we're really jeopardizing the health of Downtown," Early said.

The costs that the city would have to shoulder would be virtually the same, even if the team wasn't playing there.

"It's important that everyone understands the Pacers can't participate any more financially," Early said. "They are already participating with millions of dollars every year. We are going to have to find a solution."

Maybe if they have to "shut it down," we could pick up Granger in some sort of silent auction :chuckles:
