May 16, 2005 - At Sony's press conference today we were shown some clips from a few different games and Ubisoft was good enough to make an appearance. But instead of a Tom Clancy title showing up we were treated to some footage of a new shooter called Killing Day. While the action itself was pretty standard stuff it was the highly detailed environments and interactions that made it stand out from the other games.

In the beginning of the clip we see a couple of guys run over a table and get ready for some action. They pull their guns out as the camera pans around the room and shows off some of the lighting effects of the stained-glass window. It was all set up for some close-combat fighting in the dark room, but the next cut takes all of the action into a mall in Milan for some straight up FPS action.

Once in the famous mall with marble floors and a huge vaulted glass ceiling the player ducks behind a marble statue as enemies shoot at him. Marble is flying off in chunks as clouds of dust erupt from it. The effect is convincing with the combination of the crackling sounds and white powder everywhere. We would've been happy to see the entire statue get torn to bits, but the action moved on.

Next up are a couple of thugs who are standing up on a bridge. The player dodges some attacks and then shoots at the glass flooring of the bridge, shattering it and sending the thugs down to the floor. Also taken out are another thug standing up on a balcony as well as a gunman who ends up standing a little too close to a couple of propane tanks.

Even though all of the action is pretty standard fare and the two hands holding guns in the foreground (for dual-wielding) look a little awkward the demo showed off the ability to have some brilliant looking environments. We may be shooting people in classic twitch-action, but at least the view is a little better.

Looks pretty tight, the environments look crisp.
