Any sleeper picks anyone wants to throw my way? I draft tomorrow.

Vernon Davis :]

Kevin Barlow

Verron Haynes.

Keep an eye on him for now, if Willie Parker is ineffective, he could become a feature back.

How deep is your draft? If it has like 20 roster spot(with team D) I'd go after Vincent Jackson. He could very well be the Charger's #1 WR after a few weeks.

I heard Haynes lost the #2 spot to Patrick Cobbs

As mentioned earlier, you might be able to get Reggie Kelly, a decent starting TE, real late. He went in the 17th round in my draft, and since we keep 4 players each, that's really like the 21st round. At that point there only second and third string players and kickers still available, yet he's a starter on maybe the most prolific offense in the league.

Lundy is the starting RB in Houston. I wouldn't count on him for anything more than a third RB, but if you could get him late and he can produce close to Davis that's pretty good value.

Course, the word out of houston is they might go RB by committee with Lundy, Morency, and Dayne. RB by committee is death when it comes to fantasy. Yeah, on second thought I wouldn't go Lundy unless it's the last round and there is just ass left.

Did HOU pick up Dayne after Denver released him? I have hear earlier this summer they might be interested in signing him but nothing else.

Cobbs has only been in camp 3-4 days, I hadn't heard that yet.

QB's

Chris Simms - A very interesting pick if you ask me... If you do your research, Simms is in his contract year.. And usually that means he is in for a big year.. He is going to put it out on the line to get a big raise.. Also don't forget that Michael Clayton has showed up in the best shape in his career..

David Carr - The former #1 pick, hasn't had the chance to show what he really has with his bad offensive line in front of him.. With the pick up of Mike Flanagan, Eric Winston and Chris Spencer should really help that line develop into a solid one.. Carr also has Andre Johnson to throw to.. As well as veteran Eric Moulds..

Kurt Warner - With Leinart down with a shoulder injury, this could mean more time for Warner.. Last year, he had the most 300yd games among all QB's in the league.. And get this, he only played 10 games.. So given the running game to take the pressure off the pass, and added maturity of Fitz and Boldin, I would expect pretty good production from him..

RB's

Frank Gore - You may not think about him at first glance, but he is a big sleeper... Last year in shared duties, he rushed for 600+ yards and 3 TD's... The NFC West is also very favorable when talking about the running game.. Also factor in that Norv Turner is taking over, and he is a power running game type coach..

Chester Taylor - The new West Coast offense that Taylor will be featured in, really takes advantages of Taylor's strengths.. Taylor's quickness, speed and sure hands will really help him to excel in Minnesota.. You also have to remember that they Vikings have a very good line, that features Steve Hutchinson, Matt Birk and Bryant McKinnie..

Joseph Addai - His all around game really fits well in the Indy offense.. His burst to the outside helps with the main play being the Stretch in the Colts offense.. His receiving out of the backfield is also a very important, with him being able to score points in two ways effectively.. A very important thing to remember, is the fact that he is a very effective at picking up the blitz.. A key to who wins the job..

WR's

Reggie Brown - He strong finish last year, should indicate that he is ready for a breakout season.. He caught 23 passes in the last 5 games, and showed why he was drafted out of Georgia during the first day... Given that he has one year in the system, also is a comforting things.. Don't think that the Stallworth addition will affect his performance.. It's going to take him a while to pick up the playbook..

Lee Evans - Evans showed last year that he is one of the premier deep threats in the league.. He has a TD for every 6 receptions that he has, so far in his career.. He also has switched to the "X" postion, which gives him more of a chance to show off his explosive skils.. Keep in mind that JP (Losman) will be looking for him on every play...

Roy Williams - Even though the Lions have trouble with the quaterback position, he has managed to pull off 8 TD's consistently.. With the Mike Martz taking over as the offensive coordinater, expect a lot of downfield plays; Williams specialty..

EDIT: the TE's, D/ST, and K's

TE's

Ben Watson - Probably, IMHO, one of the biggest sleepers there are this year in fantasy.. With the loss of David Givens, and Deion Branch not likely to play a game as a Pat, Watson will be very important in the passing game for the Pats.. They often use 2 TE sets and like to use their TE's in the red zone.. A big plus for TD's.. Expect big numbers.. He is going to cause lots of mismatches..

LJ Smith - With the Eagles most likely to air it out this year, expect lots of catches for Smith.. He has the size, quickness, and burst to play in the West Coast offense.. McNabb is back and poised for a big season.. Watch out..

Kellen Winslow - Hey, what can I say, I am a homer :).. Although, I do believe Kellen is a big sleeper.. He toolset is hard to match among the TE's out there.. The two key facts that will make him a sleeper this year are: young QB, red-zone.. First of all, the Browns had a tough time scoring in the red-zone last year.. They will defintely look for this big, athletic target in the end zone.. Also, the fact that we have Frye at the helm is even more telling.. Winslow will be Fryes' security blanket.. He will look to him in tough spots..

K's

Lawrence Tynes - Expect a lot of extra points with the Chiefs offense.. It will be quite efficient this year with Herm at the throne.. Tynes is pretty accurate, which is a big plus.. Don't forget about the home kicking.. KC is good kicking weather...

Nate Kaeding - With Phillip Rivers at QB this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of field goals kicked.. Marty isn't going to take any chances with Phillip, he's most likely going to play it safe with Kaeding.. And if the offense does figure it out, LT is going to score a lot of TD's.. Again, SD has good kicking weather..

Michael Koenen - Simply put, Vick and the offense is going to produce a lot of points this year.. The additon of Lelie, will help, I also feel White will come out of his shell.. Again, favorable conditions indoor..

D/ST's:

Seattle Seahawks - The addition of Julian Peterson is going to help tremendously.. His pass-rushing adds a whole different dimention... The LB's unit will be one of the leagues best with LeRoy Hill and Lofa Tatupu joining him.. The comeback of Ken Hamlin, will be a tremendous jolt of energy to the defense.. Before getting injured, I thought he was going to be a Top 10 safety in the league.. Not to be forgotten, the Seahawks is going to be filthy.. What does that mean?, the defense will be on the bench...

Atlanta Falcons - Just like the Seahawks, the addition of John Abraham will help a ton.. Restructuring the DB's as well is going to bring a sigh of relief to the coaches.. Last year, the secondary was a big weak part of the defense.. Now add in Jimmy Williams, Lawyer Milloy, and Chris Crocker and it seems like a very good group.. The biggest factor will be the return of Ed Hartwell..

Cleveland Browns - I really do think we are going to be a sleeper this year.. We were in the Top 10 is pass yards allowed last season and we were 2nd in Red-Zone scoring.. Pretty good if you ask me, especially without the pass rush.. The run defense was horrible but Ted Washington, D'Qwell Jackson and Willie McGinest will really help.. The pass rush generated from Willie and Wimbley, will really help as well.. The srength of this unit is the ST.. Zastudil is a Top 10 punter in the league with his strong leg, Cribbs is a very good KR, Northcutt is probably one of the best when it comes to PR's and Phil Dawson is a very accurate kicker.. If you do decide to go with the Browns D/ST, it allows you to wait until the last round..

Well there you go.. I hope it helps.. :)

Style, everything I hear about Kelly is that he is a blocker and that he has no fantasy value. Predictions: 17 Rec. 106 yards and 1 TD... I agree that he has a chance to shine, but I would rather have someone like Watson, Troupe, or Winslow as my #2 TE.

My league has deep roster. After 17 rounds (think 21 in non-keeper leagues), those guys were looooooooooong gone. Let me look it up:

Round drafted: TE taken
4: Watson
7: Troupe
8: Winslow
SEVEN F'ING TEEN: Kelly

I hear what you're saying, and in more shallow leagues you'd be right. In my league, however, getting Kelly in the 17th round to be your third TE is pretty good value. By way of comparison, here's what the 17th round looked like:

Jerry Porter OAK WR
Roddy White ATL WR
Reggie Kelly CIN TE
Josh Scobee JAC PK
New Orleans Saints NO D
Stephen Gostkowski NE PK
Laveranues Coles NYJ WR
Rian Lindell BUF PK
Jeff Garcia PHI QB
Antwaan Randle El WAS WR

Just want to bring this thread back up, to see if your suspicions are right so far...

I actually came close to drafting coles in round 15 or so, but didn't b/c he shared bye weeks with my other WRs and I just simply didn't need another WR. I had him as clearly the top one available though. When he just kept sliding, I was like "screw it", and was about to take him anyway in the 17th round, but then someone finally grabbed him just ahead of me.

I'm not exactly sweating this one, though. My top four WRs are Steve Smith, T.O., Wayne, and Andre Johnson. Even Bennet, my 5th WR, is a decent 3rd WR, checking in at 31st in the league in total scoring at that position.

At any rate, this thread shows just how hard it is to predict sleepers. I almost never draft them. Nine times out of ten you'll do better just drafting proven, non-risky players, and then tweaking your roster with UDFAs who explode early.

And WRs are so stinking easy to get. My nemesis picked up Coston and Berrian as UDFAs, and they start for him. They're both #1 options on their teams, and top ten at their position.
