Eric Snow's Shoot for the Moon Foundation tries to strengthen ties between young boys and their fathers.
Tanielle Shurney had never met Cavaliers guard Eric Snow. And her 16-year-old son, Anthony Gordon, wasn't even a basketball player. The Glenville High School junior was a football running back.
But after Gordon was shot and killed in the Flats in January 2006, the funeral home called Shurney's house to tell her that Snow's Shoot for the Moon Foundation had donated $2,000 toward her son's funeral. She was blown away -- by that and the generosity of countless others who stepped up to support the family.
"I don't know if he just heard it on the news or how it went down," she said. "I never had a chance to even see him or thank him. I was very grateful for that."
Snow launched Shoot for the Moon Foundation in 1997 to strengthen father-child relationships through basketball clinics and other activities.
