Last week Josh and I had the opportunity to attend media day. What an awesome experience – especially seeing some of the newer players (Bynum alert!) in Wine and Gold and being able to ask them some questions. A few takeaways from questions posed to Anthony Bennett, the #1 overall draft pick.
Anthony Bennett
Historically speaking, #1 overall draft picks come into the league with extremely high expectations. Franchises with that high of a selection generally fall within two categories: (1) full-out rebuilding mode, or (2) seriously underachieved. Thus, expectations for hitting on the draft are exceedingly great – often times the hope is that player is deemed worthy of turning around the franchise.
Obviously, the Cavs didn’t quite fit that mold coming into the draft and for this upcoming year, and hence there isn’t as much hype or expectations for Bennett. Sure, Cavs fans will expect nothing but greatness this year from Bennett. I’ll get on board that sentiment, even electing to ignore that in his first three shots during the wine and gold scrimmage, he fired up two air balls that weren’t even close.
