A trade on the table for me:

I get:
Kobe
TJ Ford

I lose:
Deron Williams
Kevin Durant

I know very little about fantasy basketball. HALP PLZ

It's all about the numbers bro. Name's don't mean a thing in fantasy, so you can more or less know a good trade just by working things out with a calculator. It is important to know what you want to accomplish with the trade. Are you winning rebounding but falling just behind your opponents in assists? Then try to work a trade which raises you average assists while maintaining your rebounding. It more or less comes down to that kind of a situation in my experience. It is valuable to look at the season, last 30, and last 7 days averages for the players in the trade to be certain that none of the players had their season averages inflated or deflated over the lasts couple of games and to ensure that nobody started hot and have flamed out since.
Also, be wary of players that are particularly injury prone, but don't let that be the determining factor. More concerning than injury prone players are those who's numbers are inflated because they are playing more due to an injury to the player above them in the depth chart ala Millsap (before Boozer had the knee surgery of course, now Millsap is pretty much set for a while with the minutes he is getting.)
As for the specific trade you brought up, it is hard for any of us to give you help because we don't know what stats you are looking to improve or what your game plan is. So my advice is to look at the numbers and just take the time to work things out; calculate what your averages would be / how they would change after the trade. If you discover that with your current players you get more rebounds and after the trade you would increase you assists, and that is desirable, then it's a good trade. If not, then i would hold off.

Right now, from the looks of it you are considering the trade solely on Kobe because Deron is way better than TJ IMO. What you can do is try to get someone from the FA list. I just picked up Eric Gordon and he has been playing beautifully for me points wise, even before Baron got injured. You would probably get a slight increase in points, but that is about it. In the last 15 games:

TJ
.346 fg .714 ft 0.0 3pt 1.7 reb 4.0 assists 0.7 stl 0.7 blk 7.7 pts

Kobe
.566 fg .889 ft 2.3 3pt 5.0 reb 4.7 assists 1.7 stl 0.3 blk 30.7 pts

what you have

Deron
.435 fg .833 ft 1.0 3pt 3.0 reb 10.8 assists 1.5 stl 0.3 blk 16.8 pts

Durant
.468 fg .886 ft 1.1 3pt 8.6 reb 3.7 assists 0.7 stl 1.0 blk 23.3 pts

total of main categories

What you get
6.7 rebounds, 8.7 assists, 2.7 steals, 1 block and 38.4 pts with a so/so fg and .80 ft%

What you have
11.6 rebounds, 14.5 assists, 2.2 steals, 1.3 blocks and 40.1 points with a higher ft%.

now make a decision.

Keep Durant and Deron. They both give you pts, one gives you rebounding and a few ast while the other is assists and few rebs, they both shoot good percentages overall, from 3, and on ft's. They get their fair share of stls and blks too.

As I said before, if you just need points, go to the fa list and pick up Eric Gordon. If you are playing in a deep roster league he would be a great pick up if still available. I think you don't need anything in this scenario, maybe if you give up someone lower than Deron instead this trade would be justified but right now it would be negative towards you.
