Maybe Dan Gilbert was right, that unexpected good things will start to happen to our teams.

Exhibit A. Wisconsin Green-Bay 81, Valpo 80.

This is very good in many ways.

1.) Gives CSU a simple path to the NCAA tourney: Win 4 homes games, and you are in. Beat Wisconsin Milwauke, and WGB at home this week, and the Vikes are regular season champs. That means CSU will host the conference semis where they will play either the 4,5,9 or 10 seed. Win that and they play at home against a team from the other side of the bracket (2,3,6,7,8) in the championship game. Win that, and you are in.

For the record, CSU played the 2 Wisconsin schools on the road back in early December. They beat GB by 8 and Milwaukee by 23.

2.) Valpo's loss puts them tied with Butler and Milwaukee in the loss column with 5 (Butler has played 1 more conference game).

Assume that Valpo (UIC and Loyola Chicago), Butler (Loyola) and CSU all win out. Valpo and Butler would tie for 2nd, and Butler would win the tiebreaker*. 4th and 5th place would be Milwaukee and Wright State/Detroit**.

3.) How would the tourney play out? Valpo would have to beat the last place team at home, then beat Detroit/Green Bay/Wright St. at home, to set up a semifinal vs Butler.

CSU would likely face Milwaukee or Wright St. CSU killed Milwaukee @ Milwaukee, killed Wright State at home, and beat Wright St on the road when Norris went for 40/20/9. Win that game, and they face either a weary Valpo who they beat on the road, or Butler.

Basically, as long as CSU beats the teams they've already beaten so far, worst case scenario is that they host Butler in conference championship

*Horizon League rules for tiebreaker.

1.) Head to Head (Butler and Valpo split)
2.) Start at the top of the conference and move down. If 1 of the 2 tied teams did better against someone, they win the tiebreaker. Since CSU would be #1, the tiebreaker after head to head would be record versus CSU. Butler swept CSU :)thumbdown) and Valpo split with us, so Butler wins the tiebreaker.

** Wright State hosts Detroit in the reg season finale. If Wright St wins, they and Milwaukee are 4 and 5, depending on if Milwaukee beats Youngstown. If Detroit wins, Milwaukee is 4th, Detroit is 5th and Wright St is 6th.
