Welcome to Cleveland - Michael Woods II WR Oklahoma

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Most likely some area scout fell in love with him for some reason and convinced the group to take a shot on him. At a spot in the draft where teams were in full on lottery ticket mode, seems like a shot in the dark.

Regardless, he looks mediocre as hell. By the end of camp I expect them to stash him on the practice squad for the year.

Speaking of area scouts… what a gig that west coast area scout guy has that seems to be featured a lot on Building the Browns. Dude gets paid a nice salary to scout guys that don’t even get picked by the team so there’s nothing to judge his performance on. What a dream job. 9 draft picks and the Browns didn’t take a single guy west of Texas.

Berry: “hey bud great job scouting this year, sorry we didn’t pick any of your guys, but keep up the good work and I’ll see ya next year!”

Guy lists all the mediocre traits of Woods and why he’s not highly sought after (50s percentile in speed and athleticism, mediocre 40, inability to create separation, ok size, minimal production)…

“also he YouTube’s a lot and I really like that. Anyway yeah he’s my first sleeper.”

I'm just not really sure I get this pick -- more so from what it means for the WR room..

This seems more like a UDFA type player and with a team that has so many unproven WRs in the room already, it seems like they added a guy for a draft pick who could very well get cut and spend the year on the practice squad..

Typically Berry's later round picks have a calling card either elite production or elite athleticism, and Woods doesn't seem to have either.. If you would have swapped Isaiah Weston for Woods with this pick, I think people would be a lot more excited about Weston..

Woods best case scenario seems to be a Khaderal Hodge type role where he makes it as a gunner on special teams, contributes as blocker in the run game and steps up when injuries come into play..

This wouldn't be a bad use of a 6th round pick honestly. A guy who can contribute on ST and occasionally make a play or two on offense off of a jet sweep or deep ball is a nice role. That's the kind of player that can become a culture piece. Those guys on the end of the roster that find ways to show up in games can be tone setters.

I know from over the years we have really missed having those guys on kickoff coverage and punt coverage who you just knew were gonna make a play. I know MJ Stewart and AJ Green have found some nice roles there and both guys have also found themselves out there on defense in spots to make plays.
