Ian Eagle vs. Mike Fratello would be a pretty fair fight. :chuckles:

Love how he brought it to a close. Basically " I had too spend two hours with you and you're an asshole...timeout"

something tells me they won't be working together next year.

Here's the initial segment.. Eagle was being a bit of a douche when he says 'I have no idea what youre talking about'.. I'm sure there were plenty who tuned in who maybe didn't know what a slip screen was.. it's a pretty common thing for an announcer to explain a common sport play for those unaware. Fratello never seems to catch on to this, and Eagle goes with the 'that shot was inside the arc so it's 2 points.' Later on in the game, maybe he didn't want the fans to believe he really didn't know what a slip screen was, so he calls out Fratello as his joke failed.

Fratello wasn't being a dick at all. Maybe he's a dick off the court...but I thought he was reasonable about explaining it and he wasn't patronizing Eagle at all.

Eagle was being overly sensitive and unprofessional there.

Don't understand how people go to such lengths to make fools of themselves.

This schedule of 4-5 games per night has been murder on the players, but obviously it has been tough on the production crew as well. There's only one fair way to handle this:

"Hello everybody and welcome to Sacramento. I'm Ian Eagle with my partner Bill Walton..."

Who's Ian Eagle?

Honestly. He should bring in Tyrone Hill to show him slip screens.

That'd be one way to handle it. The other more fair way to handle it would be,

"Hello everybody and welcome back to Cleveland. I'm Hubie Brown with my partner Gus Johnson. We've just finished game 4 of the Heat vs. Cavs series with the Cavs wrapping up this series in 4. Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Tristan Thompson have all been on the bench for the entire fourth quarter of this blow out victory. This one got way out of hand after LeBron James left the floor after having his headband fall off to reveal that his hairline has now receded to his mid-back area. He was clutching his elbow as he limped off the floor. More on that later. We'll be rotating our announcing spots in the finals with Bill Walton and Charles Barkley with Gus coming in to finish the last 45 seconds of each fourth quarter. The Cavs will be facing the Sacramento Kings in the finals...and don't forget the implications of the Kings having made the playoffs this year Cavs fans. Now here's a montage of Nick Gilbert, Dan Gilbert and David Stern winking at each other repeatedly..."

I know this is kind of off-topic but I find it funny that Fratello was doing discount Drug Mart commercials

Eagle came off as an oversensitive douchebag that doesn't know what a slip screen is...

Unprofessional, just a bad job outta him there.

Announcers forget sometimes that it is their job to make things clear to the audience. Not everyone is a basketball fanatic like us, and they need to explain weird calls, tell you what happened when it isn't clear, and throwing in more information when they use jargon. Some of it you can learn from context, but you have to realize that little kids are watching for the first time.

Speaking of that. Did you hear the announcers for the Wizards when the Cavs played them the other night. They were really bad, worst I have heard this year. So much dead air. It was really amazing. People hate Fred and all, but he says what is going on in the game, and there is no dead air. He also is good about asking AC to rephrase or explain things, even though he knows the answer to make sure it came through to the viewer.

There had to have been something off the air that happened between the two because I didn't see any reason for Eagle to get upset. I thought Fratello explained things well, and yet Eagle just started taking shots at him.
