I think he's the 2nd best fit outside CV31. He won't clog the lane, can hit the baseline 15-footer consistently, and is the best rebounding PF available in my opinion.

He's not going to stretch the floor like CV31 and I realize he's 34 years old, but a 1-year deal could be a nice option. Dude had like 5 games last season with 20 or more boards.

If Detroit's going to blow their wad on Gordon and Charlie, it doesn't appear they'll have enough cap room left to sign Dice.

Even f he's plan B or plan C, I think that he is a solid option that fills a void at the 4.

Question is...what would it take to land him?

I've liked his game for a while... Good teammate, good shooter, rebounder... Could be a really nice compliment to our team...

I've also wondered why McDyess isn't getting more attention in the national media, but I think this is one of Ferry's primary options. He does so many things that will be essential to this team next year, most of which you have mentioned. Combine that with the fact we were one of the top 3 teams in the running for him after he was cut last year and I think Ferry will try hard to get him here.

IMO McDyess should have been the prime target from the get go... CV would obviously be the long term fit, but I'm not sure if that's the route I would want to go anyways...

The Cavs can't let McDyess get away...

I'd be fine with McDyess on a 1-year deal

Some concerns though

1) He is 34/35 and had a history of knee problems. One bad fall and he could be done. You could say that for anyone but the risk is higher IMO.

2) We would be ancient on the front line and totally reliant on 2010 FA to upgrade. If Bosh or Amare signs somewhere else, especially somewhere with cap space for another 2010 FA, we could be in trouble for obvious reasons.

I don't look at number 2 as such a bad thing. Let's say we went the CV route and he came here. We'd still be building around CV and Andy which are two good, but flawed frontline players anyway. We'd have to add bigs then anyway. This route lets us try to bring in a more well rounded PF/C whose also young enough to be with us for awhile that may overlap with CV's skills but bring more defense. If we're gonna spend the money, might as well try to kill two birds (solid offense and defense) with 8-12 million dollars. There will be options even if it's not Bosh and Amare. Antonio taking a one year deal keeps that money free. Then we have Andy/JJ/Darnell/Acquisition/Acquistion 2 or Draft Pick. We're probably gonna see a lot more small ball in 2010-2011 unless we get amazingly lucky the draft or trade for something between now and then anyway.

I like Dice alot. He would be a great fit here.

I know everyone talks about Sheed having a good history guarding Dwight Howard but I'm pretty confident that Dice has done a good job on Howard as well.

I'm not sure CV is possible so I realy would like for us to get Dice, Artest, and Parker.

When we play Orlando we can use Artest at the 4 for Rashard.
We can do the same thing when the Lakers bring out Odom at the 4, put Artest in at the 4 to guard Odom.

We can use Anthony Parker to guard taller wings like Kobe and VC (although Delonte has a good history guarding the latter).

If you want production out of your 4, then McDyess will give you more than a Brandon Bass or Channing Frye. Think a more productive, better rebounding Joe Smith.

Will he demand the full MLE for a 1-year deal? I don't know; his salaries over the past couple years have been complicated with the trade/waive, buyout and such.

I'm thinking if he's there for the taking and you can get him for a year even at the full MLE, I think its a good option. Yes we remain old as dirt on the front line, but it does provide alot of flexibility for 2010.

The Cavs pursued Dice HARD last year after Denver bought him out, and he said that we were his 2nd option after going back to Detroit. Now he admits his chance at a ring will come elsewhere, maybe Cleveland is that "elsewhere".

I think it's a good fit and he is automatic from the wing. We contested all of his shots during the playoffs and they still went in. Deadly. Can he really guard Rashard? I wont be disappointed if we get him, and it means that our young bigs have to develop.

if we get dice it will likely be for the BAE, allowing us to use potentially the full MLE on an upper-tier wing player...hopefully artest. Potentially:

Mo/delonte/boobs
Artest(wing player)/delonte/green
Lebron/Artest/green
Dice/Andy/Darnell
Shaq/Z/Andy

If we had that starting lineup, then delonte off the bench, we would easily have the most physical team in the league. Teams would be afraid of us.
