With free agency coming, Houshmandzadeh thinking big
Even when he was on the bubble to stick with the Cincinnati Bengals as a seventh-round draft pick because of injuries, T.J. Houshmandzadeh said he knew he belonged in the NFL. Now — with four seasons as a starter behind him, in which he has 353 receptions, 32 for touchdowns — Houshmandzadeh's belief in his ability hasn't wavered. But it hasn't exploded, either. He's the same — confident, not cocky — even after a Pro Bowl season in 2007 in which he tied with New England's Wes Welker for the NFL lead with 112 receptions.
"I'm cool, the same thing, man," Houshmandzadeh said when asked about his goals for 2008.
"It's not going to change. You have to come out here every year and at least try to do better. You never want to do the same."
Even the uncertainty of potential unrestricted free agency isn't bothering Houshmandzadeh. This season is the last of his four-year contract, and no serious talks of an extension have been held recently.
"It doesn't bother me one bit," he said of his contract status. "If it happens it happens."
