Yao Ming could miss all of next season, possibly more

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Feel bad for the guy, total professional and he's had to work so hard to come back from so many injuries. It's just frustrating when you end up worse than you were after the last injury.

Stay strong Yao.

Oh man, the Rockets are going to be in bad shape for a long time. T-mac and Yao is alot of money in tight financial times. And it looks like the might play a combined 0 games next season.

Well ... so much for the Yao-coming-to-Cleveland rumors.

Yao is one of the least douchey guys in the NBA so I feel for him. It's pretty sad, I feel like if he stayed healthy in the Laker series they honestly may have been able to pull the upset.

Yea, it's sad to hear this. I hope he has a 100% recovery, and can return within a year or two. He seems like a real nice guy.

Since Yao is chineese and we have new chineese investors, i am sure he is going to come to cleveland to wear his street clotehs on our bench,

Him playing every year for China is what did it. I read this article about what they expect of him. It is too much. He is genuinely a good guy, I hope Z's doctors can help him.

Good Point.
My memory might be bad, but wasnt it the Chinese National team that decided to shut him down before the NBA playoffs and make him have that surgery, the same surgery that just broke this season in the playoffs?
Seriously can we get this guy some citizenship over here, some type of political refugee.

Re: Yao Ming out next season, maybe more

Not just Rocket fans. Think about Stern. He must be throwing a sh!t fit right about now because of all the business in China he will lose next year... karma for taking away LeBron's triple double??? But seriously, I feel bad for Yao. Seems like a good guy who has tons of pressure on him and tries his best. Look at the Olympics last year. T-mac has been a b!tch since he got his big payday and has milked injuries since then so I don't really feel as bad for him.

Fuck stern:chuckles:...He took off the 1 reb from lebron in the game @ NY:thumbdown...Payback is a bitch you know

I know my uncle is piss..He is a major rocket fan and just cant even enjoy his team...Oh well...That sucks for Yao

It's pretty sad because I'm still willing to bet China is going to rush him back if they can even if he isn't ready to go. I know it's his obligation to play for his country but if anything they've brought this on him by forcing him to play in the offseason despite him not being completely healthy. It's a damn shame to see Yao's career be hindered by this.

Re: Yao Ming out next season, maybe more

I mentioned Yao was done for the season in the Artest thread last week. Yao has the same problem Z and a lot of giants have...the arch of their feet can't handle the stress. Yao has spoken to Z's doctors and Z himself about getting the same reconstruction surgery which reduces the stress on the arch. Hopefully it works out and saves his career. I had visions of Yao coming here next year and being the perfect fit next to Lebron for basketball as well as marketing reasons...chances of that are all but gone.

As I also said in the Artest thread, this team must rebuild now. TMac is damaged goods. Yao is damaged goods. It's time to blow it up. No reason to re-sign Artest in my opinion.

Bring! B-rrring! Hello? Oh! What do we have here? The answer to the whole dilemma and all questions about Yao. What you do about Yao's injury.

I think I've pretty much summed it up for fans who remember 2001 Z or are just not with it in regards to big men with fragile feet. It's really depressing for the Rockets, because they had false hope because Yao managed to play more games over the first 7 season than Z was able to from 1995-2002, the same span of years. If Yao missed more seasons, they probably could've tried to fix him sooner. I want the Rockets to be more competitive than the 2000 Cavs were, and I want Yao to get his career back on track even more than Z did. But how will they do it with this half-completed roster? Who knows?

Some things that interest me:

  1. Nice to hear someone mention the old arch foot issue that big men have. So just for my re-collective knowledge, who else suffered this travesty beside Z and Yao again? It wasn't Bill Walton, right? (sorry I'm a little lazy with 36 hours of wake time...)
  2. I'm very happy that Yao decided to get the info from Z, of all people. Z went through hell and made it clear that Yao could pull through the same way. Because no f#ckin' Chinese medicine was really going to work... So will they decide to do it? The sooner the better. It probably means at least 1 1/2 seasons worth of pain before he feels like a new man, just like Z. It should work. I can't see how the risk could be any different. If Z survived it with his career, I have the full confidence in Yao.
  3. It's a shame that the Cavs will not consider Yao as a future prospect now. Oh well. Let the Rockets get their life back before we start trying to dismantle them.
Seriously, I absolutely hate injury of any form that ruins players. I guess Z's experience has made me humble. I even hate opponents suffering injury while we play them. But that's the risk when you play this physical game that requires massive use of the legs, arms, feet, hands, head, neck, hip, and chest. You're a walking disaster...
