Ohio State No. 1 after spring, but field is wide open

Lowdown: The offense, which in addition to Smith, Ginn and Pittman welcomed top-rated high school RB Chris Wells during the spring, should be nothing short of powerful. The question is how quickly the Buckeyes' nine new defensive starters -- most of them highly touted, but untested -- jell.

IF we can get two W's in the two night road games early in the year (Texas, Iowa), then we should have a clear path to the title game. However, that is a BIG if. I'll be suprised if we don't lose at least one of them.

However, if we ONLY lose 1 game, and it's early in the year like those two games, we should be at the top of the 1 loss teams, given our preseason rank, and should still have a good shot at going to the title game.

You don't get a shot at a national title very often. You need to take advantage of the chances you get. This year is one of those chances. My fingers are officially crossed.
