* We got great value with our picks...

Bell was ranked a 1st round pick by Sporting News (best ILB), 2nd-3rd rounder by PFW (2nd best ILB), 2nd-3rd rounder by Scout and a 2nd rounder by the Browns...

Rucker was ranked 3rd rounder by Sporting News (2nd best), 2nd-3rd rounder by PFW, 3rd-4th rounder by Scout and a 2nd rounder by the Browns...

Rubin was ranked a 3rd rounder for SN (4th best DT), 3rd-4th rounder by PFW, 5th-6th rounder by Scout and a 4th rounder by the Browns...

Hubbard was ranked a 4th rounder by SN, 3rd-4th rounder by PFW, a 3rd-4th rounder by Scout and a 4th rounder by the Browns...

Hall was not ranked by by any of those magazines but did carry a 4th round grade from the Browns...

So considering those things, we got good value on players that fit needs which is always a good thing...

* I wished we would of gotten a corner but there were not really that many available, good ones I should say, whenever we picked...

* I don't like the thought of trading away next years 3rd or 5th rounder but keep some things in mind:

- Phil's track record with 3rd rounders is not too good
- A 5th rounder is just that, a 5th rounder
- Savage always seems to recoup those picks
- Travis Wilson and Andra Davis were on the trade block, draft weekend (so we could maybe get picks for them down the road)
- We filled needs with great values with upside

* Supposedly Alex Hall was coveted by a few of the Browns scouts who fell in love with him during the scouting process...

* This judge cannot and should not be judged until at least 3 years from now... Anything else wouldn't be fair...

* but just for the heck of it:

My overall grade: B

I like what Savage did with the pieces he had and what we drafted...

If you take into account Williams, Rogers and Quinn, it changes to an A....

Think I'm crazy?:

Mel Kiper: B+ (2nd highest I think)
USA Today: B-
Detroit Free-Press: B-

Although a lot of writers don't take into account Williams, Quinn and Rogers and don't fully understand the Hubbard and Rucker picks...

C-.

We got a backup TE who could have potential and a depth LB as it stands and we gave up a lot to get them.

Of course it is silly to grade drafts before they play and before what is known with what could have been with the picks we lost. But Phil Savage gets raped on trades man...he gives in much to easily.

I still don't understand why you doubt Savage so much. The dude is a genius. If both of these guys turn out to have the impact I'm sure they will...noone cares what kind of pick we gave up.

depth LB as it stands

As it stands...

He probably will be and has the potential to be a very, solid ILB with his skills versus the run which is important for the MIKE spot...

How do you figure?

For Bell: 104 for 122 + 155

According to the trade chart the 104th pick is worth 86 points while the 122nd and 155th pick is worth 79.4 points... So really, Savage got the better end of the deal there says the NFL Trade Value Chart...

And then for Hubbard and Rucker, it basically takes a years draft pick in advance to acquire a draft pick in 1 round lower...

Like it would take a 3rd next year to aquire a 4th this year...

A 5th next year to acquire a 6th this year..

Etc...

And the picks next year are likely to be at the latter part of the round, so it's not like we're likely to be terrible next year...

Plus if you said you can't judge the draft, then how can you say he got raped when you don't even know the complete results of the trade?

A+.

Show me where any team got a proven defensive end, NT, and a quarterback that has a year under his belt and willing to step in at anytime now to takeover the starting quarterback spot. Also, adding a solid ILB along with a backup TE.

with the Trades and BQ- A
with out- D+ We needed CB A LOT MORE then WR and a D-2 OLB.

Thing is, there were really no CB's that late or even when we were picking with our first pick, that could contribute right away...

Plus there is still June 1st cuts to watch... Right now we have 4 maybe 5 corners... We should be okay although I would definitely like one more legit one...

we picked up a coner that could debelop as an udfa that most thought would be drafted in the 6th, plus as smooth said there is always the june 1st cuts. No need to reach for a cb when what are the chances a 4th through 7th plays much his rookie year. (we got lucky last year with mcdonald, most likely will not happen again) You take the best available talent when you pick. it seems to have worked in the past for new england, but hey, what do they know.
