1. Do you stand pat? You don't mess with the chemistry that we have, go to the playoffs (assuming) without larry hughes and take our chances. predicting anywhere from 4th to 6th seed. my guess we play .500 ball the rest of the way out.

2. Trade drew. weaken the frontline and gamble that andy, henderson, marty?, marshall can handle the banging in the last 30 games and playoffs with a strenghtened backcourt (so far from what we've heard). slight chemistry change but nothing major.

3. make a major shakeup trade. major chemistry change with a mix of getting rid of bad contracts and taking some on. taking a chance on upgrading talent in some areas and losing youth or giving some players just a different look in a different city.

i think we all agree that we aren't winning an nba championship this year. but a second round playoffs series would do cleveland/james/us a world of good.

4. We wait and listen to calls and trade offers. Unless there is one we cannot refuse we do not make a deal.

5. We make a trade with the Phoenix Suns and acquire Jim Jackson. He would be a quick fix for now, and he would come extremely cheap. His contract is relatviely cheap, and it's up at the end of the season.

I would do either 4, or 5.

i asked a bunch of suns fans what it would take to get Jim Jackson adn they all agreed it would pretty much be a 2nd round pick...if ferry can do this he better jump on it

1) Don't make any trades right now. Making NO trades instead of ANY trade is usually better. I'm sure the entire state of Ohio would have that Jiri Welsch trade back if they could.

2) Sign Sam Cassell this summer to a two-year deal. Yeah, I know he'll be 37-years old. But he can still ball. He's led winning teams everywhere he's gone. Heck, he's made a winner of the Clippers almost overnight. Kevin Garnett enjoyed his best years with Cassell on board, even when Sam-I-am was 35-years old. I'm talking two years. Just two. He'll be 38 when that contract gets off the books. Now that I have you convinced, it'll be a squeeze to get him for the mid-level or part of it, but some other teams might be scared bc of his age.

3) Draft a point guard in the late first round. Correct me if I'm wrong but we still have a first rounder this year, right? If we do, we can get a guy like Dee Brown to groom behind Cassell for two years.

4) Trade Eric Snow. Even if it is to the Knicks for a second rounder, do it. With Cassell as our new PG and Dee Brown waiting in the wings, Larry Brown can have him. Eric is a solid veteran who contributes a lot to the defense and overall well-being of the team, but his contract hurts. Given a choice between Cassell and Snow, I'd take Cassell.

That, in a nutshell, makes this a team that can take on Detroit next year. It will take $5 million to sign Cassell, but it will save $6 mil to trade Snow for a second rounder to NYC. A low first-rounder costs $1 million. So our payroll stays the same plus Cassell's contract comes off the books a year before Snow's would.

SF: James
PF: Gooden
C: Z
SG: Hughes
PG: Cassell

Bench: Marshall, Jones, Varejao, Dee Brown, Sasha.

That's a solid team.

Id trade Jones any day of the week over Snow. We gotta be done with signing old washed up PGs, Sam is done. We need either A, a younger guy through FA or draft one. Dee Brown is probably not going to be drafted at the rate he is going. He just isnt going to be a good NBA player.

Right now, unless we get a good PG for Drew or sign Latrell or get Jimmy Jax, im standing pat.

The number one plan this offseason should be to sign Jason Terry. Get rid of either Snow or D Jones, and sign Terry. He's the perfect fit for our system. Hopefully Ferry has been reading our boards... because I think most people on here can agree that Terry is our guy.

totally agree about Jason Terry....as for now i would love to land Jimmy Jackson and outside of that i dont see much happening

I'd look to make a small deal and add some quickness in the backcourt. I doubt the Cavs do anything though. They don't really have anything with lots of value to offer other teams that they can also afford to give up. It also seems that Ferry isn't going to take back a bad contract or a long contract in a trade unless it's for a very good player.

Cavs would have to give up a player in any trade. They can't take on more salary without giving some up. I'm pretty sure that they don't have any trade exceptions available. A player would have to go to Phoenix if they traded for J.Jackson and Phoenix supposedly doesn't want to add on any contracts past this season since they want to sign Diaw and Barbosa long term.

Well if there is a way to trade for Penny Hardaway's expiring contract, we can get back under the cap and make a run at Jason Terry. Otherwise, he's not gonna settle for midlevel, and he's not gonna go from Dallas to Cleveland if the offers are the same.

I think both Gooden and Terry will want around 7-8 mil to start. They should have relatively similar contracts. IMO I don't think Gooden should earn more than Terry, but someone will be dumb enough to give Gooden a fat contract.

If we can make a deal that helps us full time at point guard, you move Gooden yesterday. If we can only get trade offers like Fisher and Watson, well it may be better to sit back and wait till summer. Remember losing Gooden who plays between James and Ilgauskas is not that big. We just need a role player at the 4 spot and paying Drew 7-9 million to be that player makes no sense, particulary when he isn't overly suited.
