I'm sure everyone here is aware that there have been numerous times when the Cavs would go four, five or even six minutes without a basket. This usually happens when other teams play zone against us, and Lebron has to create, and try to get to the basket or kick it out to an "open" shooter. After watching the USA vs Spain game, I've realized a simple yet effective way for the Cavaliers to eliminate this problem! :gap:
-This will probably be the line up used against the zone, we might go small and play Lebron at the 4, and Wally at the 3. For the sake of the example lets just use the line up of Lebron, Boobie, Mo, Z and a PF ( Most likely AV )
- Lebron is at the left wing,
- Mo has the ball on the right wing
- Z and the PF are down low near the basket
- Boobie is camping his corner.
- This is the part where the entire "offense" gets initiated, Lebron cuts to the free throw line and camps 15 feet away from the basket, he receives a quick pass from Mo.
- Boobie slides a couple feet over, Lebron can now do the following things
A) Pass the ball to Boobie
B) Take it to the basket and finish / get fouled
C) Pass it back to Mo, Z or the PF
He will most likely go with A or B, let me show you what happens if he chooses option A.
- Boobie can either shoot it if he is given enough space, and we all know how little space Boobie needs to get his shot of.
- Andy ( Or Hickson, or who ever we sign) can come over to Lebron and set a pick on his man, which is quickly followed by Lebron cutting to the basket for the easy give and go.
- **Boobie and Mo are interchangeable right here, as of right now, because Mo is known as a shooter, but he can also put it on the floor, which means when Mo would receive the ball in Boobies spot it would give us more options.
-Z would slide back to his 15-18 jump shot range incise nothing opens up, Lebron can just kick it out for an easy J.
Of course there are many, many more offensive sets against the zone, this is basically the set up team USA was runing against the zone. I think they ran it 3-4 possessions in a row, giving Lebron the ball at the free throw line, then letting his basketball instincts and IQ take over. Every time they did this USA came up with 2 or 3 points, I realize that the Cavs don't have the talent that team USA does, but all we really need is for Mo to be able to drive, which he can do with ease, Boobie to knock down open shots, which he does, and a mobile PF who can finish... well 2/3 ain't bad :chuckles:
If you ask me, this is 20 times better than watching Lebron ISO 1 vs 5 against the zone.
