Three stats you need to know: a midseason review.
Just a little update for some of the stats I've been keeping track of and where the team stands in that regard after passing the midway point. Enjoy!
Read the rest here.I’m a game late, but hopefully not a dollar short.
After 42 games, I figured it was time we all take a look at what the Cleveland Cavaliers have done so far this season. But, instead of a traditional midseason review that may grade some aspects of the team or touch on what they’ve done well with or struggled with, I decided to throw up three important stats that Cavs fans need to know.
Some of these stats are updated stats I’ve used before with new conclusions now and some are new altogether. Without further ado, here are the midseason stats you have to see.
#1. Where do LeBron’s assists go?

A pie chart tracking the distribution of LeBron James' 323 assists to date.
After breaking down the results, not much has changed since I last looked at where LeBron’s assists go after game 28 this season. Anthony Parker is still the primary beneficiary of LeBron’s assists, accounting for 19% of them (61 assists), with Mo Williams a close second with 17% (56 assists).
But, LeBron has started looking for his big men more, particularly his centers. After game 28, LeBron had found Shaquille O’Neal for 7% of his assists and Zydrunas Ilgauskas for 11% of his assists, averaging 1.46 assists per game to the two targets combined. All three numbers have increased after 42 games, with O’Neal comanding 9% of LeBron’s assists, Ilgauskas receiving 14% of the dimes, and the two combining for 1.76 assisted baskets per game courtesy of LeBron James.Last edited by camakazee; 01-17-2010 at 07:47 PM.

Do you have any stat info on the % of each players' buckets that are assisted? (don't really care about LeBron, just everyone else). I'm trying to see if my theory of needing another self-sufficient scorer is warranted.

Go to that link and click on whatever player you want and then it'll break down what % of their shots are assisted by certain locations on the floor...

Re: Three stats you need to know: a midseason review.
That really didn't help prove my point.....Jamison has a large percentage of his shots assisted as well. I still want him though
'
But as I suspected, LeBron, West, Mo, and Shaq are the only ones who aren't assisted for a majority of their baskets (for the most part).

Re: Three stats you need to know: a midseason review.
LBJ is at 18%
West 38%
Mo 44%
Shaq 59%
Everybody else on the team is over 70% assisted
Guys we want
Jamison is at 73% (Wow very surprising)
David West 60%
Troy Murphy 75%
Caron Butler 56%
Rip Hamilton 66%
Carlos Boozer 76%
TayShaun Prince 65%
Corey Maggette 60%
Anthony Randolph 58%
I'd figure Jamison would be much less considering the type of offense they play. Figured the majority of his pts were off his own Iso stuff. I thought the David West numbers might be down because Paul was out. But.....
Last year
David West 58% (Wow again)
Jamison 70%
West 56%
Jamison 70%
This makes me want David West even more.

Jamison is good without the ball. Lots of assists off of Caron drives actually and then obviously some with Gil.

Re: Three stats you need to know: a midseason review.
.... who put that there?
Well, anyways, doesn't that mean Antawn is a good fit? He'll fit in just as well as Troy among other stretch power forwards. But he should be able to create as well too. The thing is 68% of his shots are jumpers, so it's only logical that he uses shots within the Wizards scheme of things. But close shots are only 60%, so he definitely can drive and get inside.
Also, if people are expecting him to be a 22 point scorer, it may not be quite as high. If he's less than 30 minutes, his scoring might become 15-18 points. Not a big deal. Still a good fit. LeBron's assists are sure as hell going to be happy with the new owner.(Reserved for future Animated Signature-that-won't-slow-you-down)

Re: Three stats you need to know: a midseason review.
I definitely think he would be an awesome fit with Shaq or with the Cavs in general. With Z, i believe Andy is a better fit.
He is the type of person who will do whatever to win!
Jamison can score in any position within the 3point line and can also hit the open 3pointers. He has good hands and can catch the ball in traffic with both hands and then obviously with both hands. He can not only catch the ball in traffic, he can get his shot off in traffic better than alot of players. Instead of just bowling over players he actually tries to get his shot off ie. scoops, flicks, tear drops, etc. Sometimes I would like him to just go straight up to get the obvious foul but he is so good at scoring off of awkward looking shots, I have come accustomed to it.Dream Team

Re: Three stats you need to know: a midseason review.
Why did you chose to ignore dunks and layups from LeIso end of quarter plays? Isn't that the best case scenario for LeIso?
It's nice to see the numbers for how inefficient the jump shot option is from LeIso, but how efficient is LeIso at setting up other players (are players making a higher % of their shots that are assisted from LeIso or worse)? How often does LeBron get to the basket for the high % shots (if they're still high % in LeIso)?
I like the breakdown and it's interesting to see. I just don't understand why you only focused on what seems to be the worst option of LeIso.

Re: Three stats you need to know: a midseason review.
The majority of LeBron's assists to AP is easy for me to believe, he jest drifts off to the corners while the whole Defense eye's Bron. Then Bron just skips it over there for the Money ball 3, and AP knocks it down about 50% of the time.

Re: Three stats you need to know: a midseason review.
My fault, the wording is weird out of context. Originally Max asked the question about LeBron's percentage on end-of-the-q jumpshots where he isolates himself and then takes a deep shot. I used "LeIso" to describe this act, ignoring the other areas it covers as an umbrella term.
I also tried to use that brief description before the stat ("it's the shot that all Cavs fans hate...") to set up the stat I was talking about. While he does find players and attack from isolation (I mentioned this is when the Cavs finish quarters strong), I just meant for the term to describe the act of LeIso to a jumper. Maybe I should've thrown "LeSettle" in there
