Re: The Lebron Safari 2014
Wade already has the body of a 45 year old. Its sad that Kobe, with all the extra years and minutes he has played, is 10x better than Wade right now at his age. Yea, Wade is about done already.

Re: The Lebron Safari 2014
I think the combination of the super-tax and LeBron realizing the train's breaking down is what causes James to opt out. Whether he opts out in 2014 or opts in for 2015 is anyone's guess. One thing's for certain, Micky Arison is going to be paying out of his ass to keep that bunch together, if they are not seriously contending, I feel like LBJ will tell Arison that his time's up... Arison can't really be angry, James did exactly as he was expected and delivered the championship.
It's already appearing like LBJ is shouldering an enormous load in Miami. The burden is only going to grow heavier as Wade, Haslem, Battier, and Allen age. In two seasons, I think Dwyane Wade will still be playing, and definitely still be able to put up big games but little things like his lateral mobility are going to suffer making him a lot less effective.
I just think there comes a time when LBJ looks at the load he'll be shouldering on the Heat and looks back at Cleveland and how much young-blood talent he'd have back home. The scales are going to tip to the point of where it would just be easier back home, and if we know one thing about LBJ it's that he's looking for the easier way. Cleveland will have just as good, if not a better shot at contending for championships and that moment, when the scales tip, LBJ comes home to play with this special special young man we have under our wing.
He's eventually going to have to start thinking about preserving his body, and surrounding himself with people that will make the game easier, not continually shoulder this gidonkulous load he's been expected to bear every year for his entire career.
Funny thing is LBJ could have a very unique claim to history. He'd have assembled himself two championship teams in ways unsought of by any other basketball player ever: Three free agents all signing identical contracts, joining up on a team that gutted it's way to 3 max contracts.
and implode a franchise so that it tanks to the drudges, collects the richest of lottery gems landing Kyrie Irving for leftover parts...... Let that team aquire 3 solid years of multiple draft picks...... (using the "OKC route")
Then......Re-Insert the best player on the planet to round out your young, fresh, blue chip talent pool... into the land of contention...... That has also never been done by a player, ever.
Talk about maximizing your chances at titles..... Damn..... kinda ingenious..... Maverick Carter didn't think that one up, I'll tell you that much right now........Last edited by Frank Reynolds; 01-17-2013 at 03:08 AM.

Re: The Lebron Safari 2014
I'm very interested to see how the fans at the Q react to LBJ on March 20th when the Heat come to town.

Re: The Lebron Safari 2014
LeBron would be coming home with likely 3+ MVPs, possibly 1+ Titles and likely still holding onto the best player in the game (2nd best at worst)...so yeah it would be "Kyrie's team"
Its actually such a non-issue. The play on the court will determine who's team it, not fans opinions.

Re: The Lebron Safari 2014
Unfortunately don't count the Heat out yet..
Yes Wade is getting older but Pat the rat Riley, in addition to being a snake in the grass, is also a damn smart cookie who is very tuned into what's happening. He realizes all the talk going on in the league regarding Lebron. He's the one who perfected all the back channel talk w/ Bron in the months leading up to 2010. Believe me he will likely concoct some kind of plan to try and keep Bron in Miami. Riley talks about loyalty but would probably not hesitate to deal Wade or anything else including his own soul (which he probably already sold years ago btw) if it means upgrading the roster for LeBron. He's a competitive SOB and isn't one to sit back and let a 3 time MVP walk while still in the prime of his career.
Not to be a downer but the Lakers will also have salary cap space for the first time since they signed Shaq as a FA. Don't underestimate Mitch Kupchak and the Lakers ability to bring in superstar talent especially if they already have another star like Dwight in the fold. Just sayin' let's chill and watch our young talent develop. It's probably not a good idea to get your hopes too high for any possible Bron return yet.

Re: The Lebron Safari 2014
I honestly just don't see why he would want to go to LA. I really don't. That team is old and washed up. Dwight Howard has been less than spectacular. Kobe is done after next year. Nash is probably done after this year or next. Gasol has a few years left, maybe.
So, a 30-year-old LeBron who is entering the latter half of his career is going to go to a team that has nothing but scraps and aging players why? You can't even say money is an issue... because the Cavs can offer him the same. The bright lights and big market of LA? Hmm, that argument worked out well for Brooklyn, New York, and Chicago...
I'm not holding my breath on him re-signing, like I said earlier, but it literally makes no sense for LeBron to go to the Lakers. None. Especially with all the reports we've been hearing about him being homesick and missing NE Ohio and these fans. He's either going to stay in Miami or come back to Cleveland, but I see no way he goes to the Lakers, especially to play in the shadows of all those greats and under 16 banners.

Re: The Lebron Safari 2014
That is a good question. Also, a great debate topic.
I guess you would look at the body of work he produces when he comes back and for X amount of years.
From 2003 till the decision, it was just raw stats/MVPs/a Finals appearance and Cavs Statistical Leader in certain categories which would lead for his number to be retired. (#23)
If from 2014/15 till retirement if he delivers a championship on top of the stats, it would be hard pressed to not retire (#6 if he wears that). Coupled with atleast 5+ years on the team.
Offtopic, but stil on: I believe every championship contending team, needs a guy who has won a ring (IE: Lebron now). As much as you guys talk smack about Luke, he has won an NBA championship and has the hardware. Although his play during those years didn't provide the firepower to push his teams over the hump. He was in those locker rooms and the trenches with his teamates as they battled through playoff series.

Re: The Lebron Safari 2014
The Lakers have a way of catching the big fish. I'm guessing Nash or Dwight would never have guessed last year they would be playing in LA this season. They would've also landed CP3 if Stern didn't step in.
As for Riley there are a bunch of stupid GM's out there. Bryan Colangelo is the one who gifted the Heat all that capspace in the months leading up to 2010 FA and Riley repays him by using that space to steal Bosh and land LeBron. I could see some stupid or desperate GM (Petrie in Sacramento) comes to mind who could give Riley a young piece like Cousins for Wade or Bosh in a desperate attempt to win right away. Wade might be on the wrong side of 30 but still has value around the league and some team could be willing to give MIA some young talent/assets that Riley could use in turn to entice Bron to stay. I'm just sayin' not to count our chickens yet because we already saw what that got us in 2010.
