Re: 2012 Presidential Election
I just can't believe people are going to re elect Obama. Listen I understand party loyalty and how people follow democrats and republicans till the end. However there is so much more at stake. This country can no longer sustain huge amounts of federal spending that we are currently spending. In the end something is going to have to give whether its the socials programs that the government invests in or whether its the tax payers wallets, the rich, the middle class, the poor all will suffer in the end at the current rate.
It's basic economics that this whole problem comes down too. If the federal government continues to spend money at the historic rate it's spending it could very well lead to super inflation in which will cause energy and food prices to soar beyond historical costs. Something will have to give we either have to cut funding for multiple social programs that are funded through the federal government or we will see an inevitable increase in taxes.
When FDR came into power the social programs he inacted were only meant to be sustained temporarily to help Americans through the tough times. Unfortuently those programs are still in place today and are beginning to handicap America as we speak. America is a Capitalst country and I fear as we move forward into the future the more we are moving away from capitalism and the more we are moving towards socialism.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election
I will be happy when Nov. 7th is here. I can't imagine living in Ohio or other battleground states. In IL we already have way too many automated phone ads, TV ads, etc. I feel like the "I hate Bronco Bama and Mitt Romney" girl and there have been almost no presidential ads. 0 for Romney and a few for Obama (why Obama is spending money in his home state I have no idea?)
Should be interesting on Tuesday. I will be surprised if either candidate wins by a small margin. I know that sounds funny, but I think Obama either holds on to the states he won in '08 except for Indiana and North Carolina, or Romney will win pretty much all of the toss ups plus get a surprise like Pennsylvania or Michigan.
Either the enthusiasm that Romney has gotten the past couple days is real and extends broadly beyond the people who attend the rallies, or it is an illusion and the GOP base really isn't all that fired up, except for the people at the rallies. At the same time Obama's base is either still going to come out and vote in big numbers and just aren't as openly enthused this time, or they are so un-enthused that they aren't going to come out and vote in very big numbers. The most valuable skill in basketball is not the ability to convert difficult shots, but create easy ones.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election
As a percentage of GDP, we're spending less today than we did under Reagan. We're also spending less than we did under the last year of Bush. Clinton brought spending down, Bush escalated it back up, obama has brought it down from where Bush left it. Romney is the one who has promised to escalate spending with his plans with the defense budget.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election
I wasn't referring to averages, I'm referring to 2012, which is below Reagan's peak years and right around his average. How is Romney going to lower overall spending while adding $2 trillion to the defense budget? That's a massive job just to offset the $2 trillion increase. Can anyone who plans to voter for Romney on the grounds he's going to lower government spending please explain the math?

Re: 2012 Presidential Election
Increase the taxpayer base by putting people back to work. The current $60,000 per family on average, who takes federal entitlement money, is ridiculous.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election
Oh come on... I really think you're just trying to troll us in this thread.
When is that chart from? 2010!
I'm sure you knew that. But that doesn't mean it's accurate at all. Here's an updated chart that has 2011 and estimates from 2012 (surely more accurate than your chart, now that we know what we do about 2012).
He hasn't been under 24%. Spending over that amount has happened one other year-2009. He's looking to do it three years in a row. You think he's dropping spending? Are you nuts?
Here, you can look at the numbers from the OMB: http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/defa...s/hist15z3.xlsI'm one of the most thanked guys in the history of RCF, and I was one of the most loved Cavs posters on the internet before RCF existed. The readership skyrocketed since I became a staff member. I interviewed Pat Fucking O'Brien while drinking cheap scotch for the website. Some random guy just emailed me for a Cavs-related book interview last week. I'm miles away from having to defend myself.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election
17,000,000 families are under poverty line and takes federal assistance. The amount the federal gov't and state gov't spends is right in the chart. It's actually really simple math. You take the amount we spend, and divide by the amount of families receiving aid. It's pretty crazy how math works...
