Re: Sacramento Kings (get us that draft pick)
Now that the Kings have been finally sold (netting the Maloofs an extra $10 million in the process), I am ready for new ownership to clean house, replace their GM, find a new coach this year or next year, and make some moves to bring a passable, mediocre team to Sacramento. Overachieve and give us that pick (or trade us something useful to reclaim it for yourselves). I don't care. They have been in limbo so long. I just want to see the ball start rolling over there!
The trade conditions are below. I'm not expecting to get the pick in 2014, but 2015 is a good target. This year it would have taken the Kings 7 more wins to reach the 11th seed. Alternately, just be good enough to make the pick a more valuable trade commodity. Make it happen, Vanadive.
2014 first round draft pick from Sacramento
Sacramento’s 2014 1st round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 1-12 in 2014, 1-10 in 2015, 1-10 in 2016 or 1-10 in 2017; if Sacramento has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Cleveland by 2017, then Sacramento’s 2017 2nd round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 56-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento’s obligation to Cleveland will be extinguished) [Cleveland-Sacramento, 6/30/2011]Last edited by wuck; 05-17-2013 at 01:28 AM.

Re: Sacramento Kings (get us that draft pick)
the last part of that makes no sense. How could their 2017 first round pick be in the top 10 while their 2nd round pick is in the last 5? It seems pretty safe to assume worst case is we get a pick in the 11-44 range in 2017, right? The 41-44 pick only happening if they finish in bottom 11-14 and hit the lottery. I would have to think new ownership will be motivated enough to improve the team out of the bottom 10 before 2017.

Re: Sacramento Kings (get us that draft pick)
The last part is legalese only because the Kings already traded their 2017 2nd round pick to Boston (which is protected for selections 31-55). So they just had to put it in there for that reason.
Yes, if it goes all the way to 2017, the Cavs will get the Kings pick between 11 and 44 no matter what as you detailed.

Re: Sacramento Kings (get us that draft pick)
What happens if the league expands? There is a rumor they could add teams in 2016. If they do, it would likely be Seattle and perhaps another team. Does expansion simply improve our odds of getting the pick? When the bobcats were an expansion team, they were excluded from the lottery for the top 3 picks and were given the 4th pick. So if an expansion did happen in 2016 or even 2017, our chances of getting a first round pick only go up, right?
One a side note, I wonder what it would do to the protection on the Memphis pick.

Re: Sacramento Kings (get us that draft pick)
Well, I am really curious to see what Vivek does with his version a rebuild, he has two core pieces (Evans and Cousins) to build around. I have a feeling you will get the pick next year with a whole new front office and new focus. No more of the bare minimum that the Kings have been plagued with for 7 long...years.
Then again I am being very optimistic, probably more like 2015 you will get the pick.

I don't like Sean Highkin's suggestion at all...
Sean Highkin @shighkinNBA 7m The new Kings owners need to fire the entire front office, trade everyone except Boogie, and gun HARD for the Wiggins lottery.

I don't think Vivek is stupid enough to get rid of a core player in Tyreke Evans, I wouldn't put too much stock into him releasing the following players
Demarcus Cousins
Tyreke Evans
Jason Thompson
Patrick Patterson (He is a shooter, which he liked in GS)
Marcus Thornton (our J.R Smith, when he is cold he is cold, but when he is hot...)
everyone else could probably be packed up.

Re: Sacramento Kings (get us that draft pick)
I don't see Tyreke Evans as a player worth building around. Cousins could be if they're willing to show enough patience. Evans' game is too isolation oriented and he's struggled playing every position but point guard. Problem is, he's a terrible point guard in terms of making his teammates better. New management needs to inquire about every single player's value around the league and take any offer they really like without hesitating. JMO

Re: Sacramento Kings (get us that draft pick)
Why couldn't he be a ball dominate sg like a James Harden? He showed strides in defense and his jumper this season (47% fg highest in career and 33% 3pt which is 6% better than his whole career so far). James Harden is infinitely better than Evans dont get me wrong. But there is some star talent there. We saw it his rookie year. Cousins should obviously be the cornerstone but you cant just let Tyreke go for a bag of chips. He isnt Eddy Curry
