It takes great team D to stop a great player, but that doesn't excuse Kyrie ... or why else did we spend so much time pointing our collective fingers at both Mo and Shaq for letting Rondo go nuts?

If Hot Sauce from AND1 had a jumper and a brain he'd be Kyrie Irving.

Am I the only one who thought that Kyrie had a rather unhealthy game? Too selfish, too much improvisation, not enough defense at all. I mean, was he trying to show off or something? I'm not sure if the goal was to run that pic-n-roll with Andy all night, but that is the only thing he created. I saw him get burnt several times on defense too. I hope that this is all just because they've been on the road for a long time and are tired, but I felt like last night's game was discouraging...

Irving was surrounded by parker and Jamison(despite his poor individual defense jamison plays solid team defense) last year.

This covered up alot of Irvings defensive aptitude. Waiters - rookie, Thompson 2nd year, Irving 2nd Year, these guys dont get it defensively yet.

while Kyrie is the bannerman defensively its going to take time for the team to play NBA defense. long term they will get better. short term one was kinda hoping they wouldnt be this bad out of the gate

Nitpicking at its finest. Irving was a very unselfish playmaker in the first quarter. It led to a lead going into the second which turned into a 10+ point deficit when he got back in the game. He came in and hit Waiters with some great passes behind the 3 point line that were clanked and TT with some passes that were of course blocked. We were down 22 at the half and Irving had 5 assist and only 8 points to the start the 3rd quarter. He didnt start his little " And 1 " show until he realized he had to be aggressive when we were getting our asses kicked. He only ran the screen and roll with Andy and not that scrub TT because they were trapping and doubling to get the ball out of his hands and it got to the point where he was just like f*ck it ima do it myself that was alot of reasons for the isolations in the second half. It worked. He scored 26 f*ckin points in the second half with that style of play and trimmed the lead to 10. We might have had a legit shot at winning had he started the 4th. If anything it was encouraging to watch. Dude is a star. Not many players in the league can non-chalantly score almost 30 in a half besides he got to the line 14 times which means he was attackin gnot just chucking up shots. As far as defense on Dwill is concerned I didnt see Deron do anything to Irving that he doesnt do to the other 28 teams in the NBA

Seriously need a highlight video of Irving's performance against the Nets. He has the best handles i've ever seen and i'm not even exaggerating.

On another note, after last night's game, Kyrie's PER jumped about three points to 23.4! It was hovering around or even just below last season's PER. I'm hoping he can push it past 25 or 26 by the end of the season and over 30 eventually.

Oh, and here's a new Kyrie Foot Locker commercial:

He gets into pissing contests with them instead where if they give him buckets, he comes down and gives them buckets and tries to embarrass them in the process.

This is where the game is headed. NBA Jam/arcade basketball.

He played some ok positional D on Westbrook. But as you saw, on the first possession where Kyrie played some damn good D and contended Westbrooks ill advised jumper, the refs have been trained to keep all defenders off the guards. If a guard has the mindset that he wants to attack, in todays NBA, he will do what he wants.

You don't defend elite point guards in today's NBA. The rules favor them too much.

Miami's best answer to Rondo? Either stick the most freak athlete of the last few decades (LeBron) on him or have Wade dislocate his elbow, and they still couldn't really stop him, and he can't even shoot.

Did you see it? They actually included Kyrie making a defensive play on Deron. My goodness, I thought he never played any defense at all. Guess it happens by accident once in a while, and the NBA caught it live on film.
