Re: Anderson Varejao (surgery Thursday, out 6-8 weeks)
This shit just isn't adding up. There's more to this whole thing. I'm starting to think they downplayed the original injury, which also conveniently coincides with the Brazilian news that it was much worse than first reported, in hopes that it would heal on its own. After all, a deep bruise sounds much better to potential trade partners than this recent bit. It backfired on them, as the injury got worse(which doesn't surprise me at this point considering who we're dealing with).

Re: Anderson Varejao (surgery Thursday, out 6-8 weeks)
I'm not positive about this, but I think that Bob Finnan has been the most active local reporter about Varejao's health (especially on his blog). He's the one who posted that Varejao could barely push off on the leg a week ago or so, and he has questioned several times about just how bad the injury was. His postings have made the injury sound worse from the start of the whole thing. So I don't want to condemn the whole local press on this. Just most of them... The Brazilian press was ahead of all of them.

I love Varejao, but was actually looking forward to seeing what he could bring in a trade at the deadline. It's 3 years in a row he's been hurt and missed tons of games, so I was ready to let him go for a young center, wing or draft pick...now this??!!! WTF

Putting the pieces together, this is probably what happened. The Cavs were trying to downplay the extent of his injury all along, providing minimal updates to the press on his condition, until it became apparent that he needed surgery. I don't doubt that over the past 2 weeks, Grant ramped up his efforts trying to deal Varejao. The strategy completely backfired on them.

He was having a hell of a year. Very sad to see it come to a screeching halt, like this. Get better, injuredson.

On the bright side, this pretty much guarantees no chance of a resurgence, a high draft pick, and a fresh Andy for hopefully a breakthrough season next year. Plus TZ might be good to start by then so we could hold Andy to 20-25 minutes a game as an energy big, game closer rather than a 40 minute starter.

Re: Anderson Varejao (surgery Thursday, out 6-8 weeks)
Another battle wound earned by Andy fighting to earn the Cavs a victory.
He gets hurt a lot because he's going all out for us, the team, all the time. There is a cost. His body. Let's keep that in mind instead of trashing the guy for sustaining an injury again, or trashing the front office for not getting rid of the heart and soul of this team just because they can.
It's an honor that he puts his body at risk all the time for the sake of the team. Thank you Anderson Varejao.
