You expected someone to come in and change that in the third round?

Randle was gone by our third rounder, so there weren't really any WR worth taking. i agree with this.

I'm not convinced that a guard duo of Pinkston/Lauvao is going to be the answer for this team. But, I guess we are going to find out. They seem to be the plan, atm. I will say that I'm glad Oniel Cousins is back on the bench, where he belongs.

Pinkston has put the work in to improve himself. He is going to be good. Plant Lauvao inbetween Thomas and Mack.

I'm pretty sure we could have easily moved back into the mid-to-late 2nd Round with all of the picks that we still had and gotten one of Hill/Jeffery/Randle/Broyles.

i agree, i think we could have. you have to wonder if Heckert really does have faith in our current group of wide receivers, and felt that we needed to keep the picks and fill in some quality depth.

I could see Pinkston being a pro-bowl caliber guard one day, he's improved a ton. Lauvao I'm not sure about, if he cuts down the penalties he could be serviceable.

bottom line is that our line of the future is pretty much set. Thomas, Mack, Pinkston, and Schwartz is just an absolutely ridiculous bunch.

Definitely still is along with Criner, Adams, and Toon who all have 2nd round grades and they pick 5th and 25th in the 4th round. People really need to quit bitching until the draft is actually over. Givens has a 1st round grade and 3 others with 2nd round grades and we pick twice in the 4th and at the press conference today they said there were still a few WR they like. You really don't think they'll get one?

I hope you are right. I like some of what Pinkston has shown. My biggest question marks are with Lauvao, but I guess having the best LT and arguably the best young C in the league can do a lot for a slightly below average guard.

I guess things could be worse... Jacksonville took a punter in the 3rd Round today.

My biggest problem came with what followed... Which was all of the second tier WRs being taken off the board between our pick in the 2nd and 3rd Rounds... Could we have gotten a Hill/Broyles/Jeffery/Randle and still grabbed Schwartz at 67? We will never know now, but I think there is a good possibility that he would have been there. And, if not, I think addressing the WR position was important enough to address first and then if they felt Schwartz was close to coming off the board, trading back up and getting him.

Passing on WRs with what we currently have to work with for the first three rounds and ultimately taking a defensive tackle (arguably our most talented position with our two starters)... I can't figure it.
Consensus seems to be most of the receivers left on the board would be gone in round 2 or 3 as well.

Doesn't mean they were actually going to be taken there, obviously...

Here's his analysis on ESPN Insider

What he brings: Hughes doesn't have great lateral mobility, but he has a natural low center of gravity and good strength that makes him hard to move off the ball. He's also a non-stop pass rusher that occasional gets to the quarterback with effort.

How he fits: This was a bad run defense a year ago and they were not physical enough inside in their 4-3 scheme. Hughes is a power-type guy who should be able to clog the middle and give them a little better inside rotation than most people realize.

H&H seem to think using a high pick on a WR isn't a luxury this roster can afford yet. Bill Walsh used to say get everything else, then get WRs.
