Re: Dion Waiters
Im not hating on Dion, but the Barnes hate in here is ridiculous.
2 or 3 nights in that Spurs series, Barnes was the best Warrior on the court and created matchup problems for more than a few Spurs from both the wing and down in the post (amazing remembering how he punished every wing except for Leonard in the post, but guys like Danny Green are holding their own when LeBron tries to take him down there)
I love Dion's bulldog in him, but Barnes is coming along just as nicely and after a season, his skillset still fits Irving better. The Richfield Trade Deadline Survival Kit post... here

Re: Dion Waiters
The only waivering I have is that he gets over-confident in himself a la say Ditka? (I just remember him trading his whole draft for Ricky Williams? then smoking a Cigar and saying he was going home). But doesn't seem like it. Seems like he is the hardest working GM in the Scouting Biz. But he does (unless we take Porter, lol, but he'd prob work out, I am convinced that Grant has a different rubric- why Waiters ended up here, Thompson "reaches").
As to Dion, I still take him over those guys, yes and hope that he continues as he was. Barnes gets some nod for being on a team that overachieved. But, waiters would've given them certainly a different look. Plus if we had Drummond who I am not convinced of, we'd be in a pretty tough spot now.

Re: Dion Waiters
I don't hate Barnes. I just think that he's, well, a glorified role-player in the NBA. There's nothing wrong with that, but I tend to be of the belief that, to win titles in the NBA, you need more than one guy who can initiate the offense. Drafting Barnes may have meant a better fit for Kyrie short-term, but it would have meant a lower ceiling for the team long-term.
I was totally on board with the team flipping assets to trade for the Warriors pick and draft Barnes at seven last year, though, when that trade was rumored. He would have fit nicely being on the receiving end of passes from two skilled guards.

Re: Dion Waiters
Barnes was 'creating' matchup problems because Pop decided he was the last player to worry about defending. He was posting up point guards because that's what Pop wanted.
My comment regarding Dion working out late at night was indicative of his will to strive for success. He's working out at all hours of the day. He squeezes in more hard work than anyone. Max confirmed the same thing earlier this offseason.

Re: Dion Waiters
Reading the first couple of pages of this thread is perfect evidence of why people should wait until the player hits the court before passing judgment (and I am including myself with the group of naysayers because I didn't like the Waiters pick AT ALL when it was announced). Whether you like Dion or not, you can't argue with his production as a rookie in comparison to the others selected around him.

Re: Dion Waiters
I know a lot of my dislike for Barnes is simply due to constantly seeing that we made a huge mistake by taking Waiters instead of him. Barnes was invisible throughout the season then he has a good run in the playoffs (Which was in fact quite good, though there's definitely a lot less pressure on him compared to if he were on the Cavs) all of a sudden Grant is a terrible GM because no one outside of Cleveland has seen us play.
