Re: The Jonas V thread
For those mentioning JV's shooting numbers, did any of you watch the game? If you did, you'd notice he got typical rookie vs all-star treatment. He was banged and bumped routinely on shots and didn't have any called for him (hence the 0 foul shots). It's not an excuse--and as he learns the League and gets stronger, this will change--but it is the reason for his poor shooting night. Did anyone notice how tough, on both the offensive and defensive ends, he looked? He was giving all those bumps and nudges right back to Hibbert and West. For all of you that called him a "typical, soft Euro," he certainly seemed to dispel that notion.

Re: The Jonas V thread
i just can't find it in me to take sides. i've talked to tristan few times when he was still playing in brampton for st. marguerite when they played exhibition games in toronto (big dude, can't miss him lol) and he's a real class act and i'm just happy for a toronto talent to be playing in the nba. jonas on the other hand is playing for my team and he's a hard worker off the glass and that's always a positive trait any basketball fan loves, so naturally i just have to cheer for the dude. he never did anything wrong to the fanbase. the GMs made the choices anyway, so i never understood the sudden dislike for the kid and this whole thread.
but whatever i'll just play along and post some video from now and then to generate discussion, just because i'm trying to avoid the drummond thread at all costs.

Re: The Jonas V thread
Like I keep saying, it's going to take 3-5 seasons to truly judge these young players whether they play for the Cavs or any other team. It's kind of foolish to try to make complete judgments after each game or a handful of games.
Also have said from the start, if the choice is between an average or possibly slightly above average C or an average or possibly slightly above average PF, I'm taking the C every single time.

4 pts, 4 rebounds, 1 block in about 23 minutes vs T-Wolves.

Re: The Jonas V thread
the raptors have a problem called "too many dicks on the dance floor" where we have too many mediocre players on rotation and demanding minutes. then results in jonas getting pulled out quickly and sitting for long periods of time and then thrown in occasionally. raptors need to trade a couple of it's average players (fields, fields, fields, etc.) for a superb average player (joe johnson, fields' girlfriend, etc.) in order for minutes to be organized properly.

Re: The Jonas V thread
I'm a Raptors fan who's hated the Jonas pick from day 1, and he's looked mighty scrubby the last few games. The Jonas phenomenon is 90% hype 10% substance. I've heard him get called a great athlete for a C the last 2 years. No, like most NBA players he has athleticism greater than regular people, but his in game athleticism kind of blows. He has no lift and is slow. He basically has a Mozgov, Koufos, Stiemsma, Vucevic, Zeller type of body. I've heard he has elite fundamentals. Except he has no post moves, rushs up a lot of shots and always looks mechanical and unnatural offensively. I've heard he's a guarantee to be an elite rebounder, but when I watched him in Europe I saw a guy who was too weak to box out properly and very rarely grabbed rebounds out of his area, while having no vertical lift. I've heard he's an elite pick and roll prospect, except only slips instead of setting hard screens and he's not fast or explosive enough to roll to the rim before defenses can react. I've heard he's on his way to being a Noah/Chandler like defensive anchor, except he has usually looked lost defensively in the hardest Euro, Olympics and NBA games and has very weak "vision" or awareness of where he is in relation to the other players on the court, which is key for being a defensive anchor. In reality Jonas is a tall guy with good hands, who has weak athleticism and bball IQ. In the NBA that pretty much just makes you a guy. This pick will be a disaster, mark my words. I'm not saying this because of the last 2 games, every game I watched in Lithuania or the Olympics foreshadowed this and now that I've seen him in the NBA looking at scrubby as ever, I'm convinced this will be a disaster.

Re: The Jonas V thread
I was hesitant to call Jonas anything until we actually got a chance to see him play - because all those question marks had been out there well before the draft; but while being "a guy" may not fit the hype it may end up fitting the draft. Guys like TT and JV are only going to be disasters to those fans who had hoped for a lot more out of them. They are both young projects, and there are no guarantees where they end up.
Learning to be an anchor on D takes time, so it's hard to guess where that'll end up; but both JV and TT do show a knack for grabbing offensive boards and perhaps blocking shots as well (albeit Tristan finally just got his first of the season).

18/6/1. Best statistical game, but he still had a -9 differential in a blowout. Shows that he can be consistent around the basket in time.
My god, though, he hardly got off the floor in that Durant dunk.

Re: The Jonas V thread
18pts was tops on the team and -9 was the best out of Toronto's starters. Pretty good especially considering they were playing OKC.
They said he wasn't much of a jumper. Would be nice if everyone entering the draft had to get measured at the combine.
