Nobody did anything at the meetings.

About as little movement as I can remember.

Continue to freak out though, guys.

Yeah and you're getting the hairless Jonny Damon version of him. For $12 mill the Yankees could have resigned Ichiro, Chavez, and signed Schierholtz before the Cubs did. Lol.

Lastoria just wrote this about the Youk situation. Thought he nailed it:

The sweepstakes for first baseman/third baseman Kevin Youkilis could be coming to a close. The Yankees have reportedly offered him a one year $12 million deal, and the Indians and a few other teams are said to be in the mix and have offered two year deals for $16-18 million. The feeling from many in the industry is it could be down to the Indians and Yankees. He would get a lot more for one season with the Yankees, but with Alex Rodriguez expected back in June or July it could limit him to a designated hitter role. If he signs with the Indians, they would look at him as their primary first baseman but also have him as the designated hitter from time to time and maybe even give him a few games at first base*. So, the playing opportunity appears to be better with the Indians, but the opportunity to win is better with the Yankees.

*I'm sure he meant to say "third base" here.

2 years at 9 mill for Youk? That has disaster written all over it. I hope he goes the Yankees.

Possibly. But I feel that with the limited resources the Indians have, they have to take what they can get while they can get it. I'd take him for that money for two seasons.

If we don't pay C. Perez $7M this season and Choo $8M or (whatever they will command), this becomes more reasonable.

You really think he worth 3 times as much as Jeff Keppinger or Eric Chávez? Or 1 million more a year than Melky Cabrera?

Unless we get some pitching then paying Youk 18 mill is just throwing money into a burn barrel.

I don't have the exact figures handy, but supposing someone pays him $9M/yr, does that make him worth 18 times as much as Mike Trout or 1/3 as much as an injured ARod? Baseball salaries are screwy as hell. It's all about timing and managing your resources.

We are not completely offering that kind of money for Youks abilities, its more so a "competition price." If you pay him for his abilities, another team will want him for the same thing, but will raise it to compete with the previous offer.

You can't view it as per abilities/contribution. Its more of abilities multiplied by competition/need.

The more a player reaches the open market, the more his "competition price" rises (inflates).

Morons.... Youk is a quality and versatile player...

Can't believe some of you want Swish in any capacity over Youk... I can see Youk having a strong bounce back season like Berkman did for the Cards in 2011

What's next....people not believing in Mark Sanchez?

What with your fearless season prediction based on nothing, how can people not believe you?

I agree with PIP... I think Sanchez is a wonderful talent but the talent around him is just horrid....

Seems as if the Twins acquired what the Indians needed for the second offseason in a row.

    - Last year it was a righty bat with power who plays LF/1B, they signed Willingham.

    - This year it was young pitching, they acquired Alex Meyer, Vance Worley, and Trevor May.

Pretty crazy they received two of those pitchers for BEN REVERE.
