The Blue Jays announced that they claimed Russ Canzler off of waivers from the Indians. The Indians had designated Canzler for assignment earlier in the week.

Canzler appeared in 26 games for the Indians this past season. The 26-year-old posted a .269/.299/.398 batting line in 97 MLB plate appearances while playing first base and left field. He spent most of the season at Triple-A, where he posted a .265/.328/.487 batting line with 22 home runs and 36 doubles in 539 plate appearances.

I doubt he makes the team. He has been hot garbage since 2008 and played for the independent Sugar Land Skeeters last year where he even got rocked there. I take it he was injured the last couple of years since he has only made 19 appearances so unless he impress people in spring training he is done.

Kazmir hasn't been good since 2008, and only had one appearance last year, and had ERAs of 5.94 and 4.89 the two years before that.

However, he is still young. I'd love if he could turn back into his Tampa Bay form with the Tribe. He'd probably be our #1 or #2 guy.

Yeah, this isn't going to overhaul our pitching staff or anything. But, he's worth a risk. There is no negative at all if he doesn't pan out. And if he does you could wind up with a solid #4 or #5 starter. I don't expect or even think it's possible for him to get back to his previous MLB form, but if he could just get some of it back he'd be a solid back of the rotation type of guy.
