Re: Kevin Love
I love people's optimism, but only on Realcavsfans do people think it is possible that we can trade for a top 10-15 player without including our top 5 lottery pick.
Minnesota will move Love at some point (probably not this year) but I can assure all of you that when they do they will not let the team they are trading him to hold on to their best draft pick in exchange for a bunch of crappy ones down the line.

Re: Kevin Love
I would absolutely give them our unprotected pick this year in a deal for Kevin Love. Come on, people. This is a pretty weak draft anyway. Kevin Love is already a superstar, and it's very unlikely we get anyone as good as him from this year's crop of draft prospects. This is literally the perfect year to trade an unprotected pick for a proven star player.

Re: Kevin Love
Seriously.
What are the chances, even with the 1st pick, that you hit on a guy who will average 20 & 14 as Love is now (and averaged 26 & 14 last season)? The fact he can shoot just makes him that much more valuable if we have guards that can drive and dish.
Guys like that don't come around often, and if you really did have a chance at him you don't haggle over not wanting to give up your #1.

Re: Kevin Love
Without a doubt I'd give up our unprotected 1st, especially is it meant we could somehow hang onto Waiters. The amount of room that Love would open up for Waiters and Irving would be insane. Obviously I would love to be able to hang onto AV as well, but he'd have to be in just about any trade we make. Love is worth anyone not named Irving that's currently on our roster. Plus, Love is only 24 right now. He hasn't even hit his prime yet.

Re: Kevin Love
In my opinion, I would not give up the following in a Love trade:
1. Either Waiters or an unprotected 2013 first. The Wolves get one or the other, but not both.
2. Tristan Thompson or Tyler Zeller. Again, the Wolves get one, but not both. That said, if they threw in Pek, they could have both and Varejao.
3. Any future unprotected picks. Best to play it safe here.
You have to remember that, once we trade for Love, we still need a team if we want to convince Love to stay. Giving up literally everything we have except Irving puts the team in an even worse position than they are in right now. We'd lose all our assets. Sure, we'd have Love and Irving, but those two and three D-Leaguers aren't going to make the playoffs. We have to keep some of our current core and some of our future assets.
I would definitely do a Varejao-Thompson-2013 pick for Love/Williams. That, to me, is probably more than Minny would get anywhere else. It would also leave us with enough young talent and assets to continue building our team and give us a very good chance to retain Love in the long run.

Re: Kevin Love
We are not getting Love in a trade.
The realest scenario (although still a 0% chance) would be LeBron coming back on a smaller deal in 2014 so that we can also offer Love the max. That would be LeBron's easy reconciliation with Cleveland...pretty sure him taking less money to create this core would satisfy a lot of the haters:
Kyrie
Dion
LeBron
Love
Zeller
Tristan?
2013 picks
2014 picks
Highly unlikely still, but more likely than us swinging a deal for Love anytime soon.

Re: Kevin Love
I disagree. As I mentioned above, we still need to field a team after trading for Love. If we trade away literally every asset we have, we'll be worse off in the long run than we would have been had we just stayed the course with our current rebuild.
Love absolutely will leave in a few years if we trade for him and can't make strides toward competing. Trading everything away to get Love will leave us in a position where we can't compete.

Re: Kevin Love
I like where Kevin Love is. He wouldn't come to Cleveland anyways.

Re: Kevin Love
Maybe Kyrie and KLove colluded during the shooting of their Uncle Drew spot??? Gilbert up in the stands, rubbing his hands together (ya know Riley was doing it when Wade was with Bosh and LeBron).

Re: Kevin Love
It's not like we'd be giving up our entire team for Love. The difference here is that we still have a future superstar at PG on the team. Love is a stud and would be a perfect compliment to Kyrie's game on the offensive end. I'd love to keep Waiters in a trade, but if the difference in completing a deal for Love is the inclusion of Dion Waiters, then he's on the next flight out of Cleveland. Assume whatever you will about Dion's future in the league, but Love is only 24, a proven All-Star at a tougher position to fill, can put up 20 and 10 every night without really trying, and can stretch the floor. Are people forgetting that Love AVERAGED 26 pts and 13 reb last season while shooting over 37% from the 3pt line?
Bottom line is, you win in the league with elite players. We've established this time and time again on this site. Could TT, Waiters, and our 1st round pick 2013 all become All-Stars? Sure, anything's possible. However, history shows that it's probably more likely that none of them become an All-Star level talent than having even just one of them get there. We know what Love is. He also can't become an unrestricted free agent until the summer of 2015, meaning that he'd be guaranteed to be in a Cavs uni through at least the 2014-15 season. If we can't fill in enough pieces in FA and with our remaining draft picks by that time, we'll be losing Kyrie too so it wouldn't really matter.
It's not likely to happen anyway, but you literally trade nearly anything you have aside from Kyrie if you can get Love. If it means AV, TT, Dion, and our 2013 unprotected 1st, I do that tomorrow. We'd have guys lining up to play with Kyrie and Love, who are two of the most unselfish and likable stars in the league.
Hell, if we wanted to we could make this trade and still make a run at Bynum in the offseason. Andre Iguodala has an ETO he can exercise in the offseason and would be an insanely good fit with Love and Irving. Mayo has a PO and is certain to opt out with the year he's currently having. DeMar Derozan is restricted and would be a nice fit. Tyreke Evans is an RFA and would be a good fit as a SG who can create for himself and others. He'd also allow Irving to play off the ball some. I don't know if SAC would really want to match an offer on him.
Look, I know that Cleveland will never be a top free agent destination, but there would be a ton of interest from FA's if we had Love and Irving. If Love does become available, you do whatever you can to get him short of trading Irving.Last edited by Bob_The_Cat; 12-18-2012 at 02:01 PM.

Re: Kevin Love
How about this trade.

2013 2nd Round Pick From Orlando or The First Round Pick From The Kings
2015 Unprotected First Round Pick
TT

Boobie
T-Wolves Out
Love
D Williams
I know it is a pipe dream but this would be awesome.
