    Default OBR Updates 11/6

Some interesting tidbits from the OBR Scout Forums Insider Page

TheOBR has learned the Browns will discuss the manner which Childress and Shurmur communicate and the issue with Shurmur getting plays called.

There has been no discussion about Childress taking over the play-calling.

Though, this aspect may come to light during the bye-week when discussions between the staff, owner, CEO are expected to take place.
Jimmy Haslam and Joe Banner a working on the organizational structure and former Browns QB Bernie Kosar appears poised to gain a legitimate position within the organization.

And no, he isn't going to be the GM or head coach.
An extremely well placed source tells theOBR Mike Lombardi WILL NOT get a look if the Browns decide to fire GM Tom Heckert.
Jimmy Haslam has not asked Holmgren if he'd like to take over the reigns as head coach of the team.
TheOBR has been told by three league sources that the Browns will fire head coach Pat Shurmur.

As for general manager Tim Heckert, the information coming out is Joe Banner may have something on the ready to bring someone in from the Philadelphia Eagles personnel Dept. To possibly assume the GM spit in Cleveland.
TheOBR has learned Jon Gruden is not looking to return to the NFL coaching ranks at this time.
The Browns have not talked with the former Brown and former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach.

Word circulating around the league is Cowher is well aware the Browns have a desire to make changes following the 2012 season.

Cowher will not comment on the Browns.

The Kansas City Chiefs also are believed to have interest in Cowher.
Pat Shurmur and Tom Heckert have not had meaningful discussions regarding their future with the organization since the take-over by Jimmy Haslam and Jie Banner
TheOBR has been told Shurmur's status is safe through the end of the season barring any significant issue.

As a side-note, not being able to get plays called into the QB, poor game-day management, questionable play-calling and disregard of information coming from players is not deemed significant at this time.
Jimmy Haslam has not had any lengthy discussions with the HC following the Browns fiasco against the Baltimore Ravens.

Haslam was visibly upset during and following the Browns loss and is expected to talk to Shurmur later in the week.
    Browns QB wish list
    1) Blake Bortles
    2) Teddy Bridgewater
    3) Johnny Manziel
    4) Jimmy Garoppolo
    5) Derek Carr

Two nicest things to hear in this are: 1) Bernie's pending position. I do believe that Bernie has a good football mind, but I did not want him to be GM or coach and; 2) Lombardi is not getting a look..

Cavaliers | Browns | Indians | Buckeyes | Red Hawks

If it is true that Shurmur is safe through the season that's disappointing. I'm so sick of seeing his face on the sidelines.

I take that to mean head coach. I'd have no issues with Bernie as the QB coach.

What's the point in replacing him if they want to replace him with somebody they can't talk to till the end of the season (meaning under contract with another team).

If they think he's hindering the growth of young players then they can remove that bad influence. Replace him with an interim guy until they can bring in who they really want in the offseason.

Awesome and thank you for these. Interesting read in any event.

I want to say that I've been reading the OBR "Insiders" since 2001. These guys are NEVER right.

I agree that neither are really an improvement, but at least they'd probably keep building on the 4-3 defense instead of switching it up. I really think we're a new coach and pass rusher away from being a 9-7 team, so no need to throw away the baby with the bathwater.

Some new updates from Sunday (forgot to post them)

The team owner has met with Jim Tressel on a least two occasions in the past two months. While not knowing the basis of the meetings, it is interesting to hear the former YSU and OSU head coach has talked with Haslam.
Not reporting the Browns have an interest in the Penn State HC and former OC in New England, but O'Brien is gaining steam as a HC candidate throughout the league, especially after the job he has done at PSU.
Had a very good relationship with Browns GM Tom Heckert and there is a growing sentiment amongst some in league circles that the Browns would have an interest if Reid is terminated in Philadelphia.
Jimmy Haslam has had numerous conversations with contractors about enlarging the main screen by 50% with vastly improved visual quality.
The team owner through a discussion with the league office has informed the league that the Browns helmet is off limits in regards to any emblem, decal, etc.

Haslam is open to modification of the uniform, but the base colors of orange, brown and white remain the primary team colors.
    Browns QB wish list
    1) Blake Bortles
    2) Teddy Bridgewater
    3) Johnny Manziel
    4) Jimmy Garoppolo
    5) Derek Carr

This sounds encouraging about keeping Heckert.

Tressel lives fairly nearby in Medina Co. and works at UAkron, and has regularly been seen out and about in Cleveland in the recent past (i.e. last year) so not much can necessarily be concluded from this.
Need help picking a new user name; I have jinxed two Browns executives in a row.
