Re: Manual Transmission
Every man should be able to:
Drive a stick shift
Change oil in own car OR change oil in friends car in return for beer.
Change a flat tire
I'm going to look down upon him now. Mostly because he is short.Team #Breathy taking over 2013

Re: Manual Transmission
I can do two and three.
How about a quick simile: Watching the Browns from '99-'12 is like waiting for someone to finish shitting when you've gotta go piss real bad. Now imagine waiting on a 12 year shit...

Re: Manual Transmission
Been doing 1 since I was 14
Can't do 2.
Never had to do 3 in an emergency but I certainly know how to.
Also, my daughters (cause I know I will have 6 of them) will not be allowed to drive unless they know how to change a tire or understand the mechanics between HP, RPM and Torque.

Man who doesn't know how to drive stick shift > Man who attempts to prove manliness on an internet forum.

Re: Manual Transmission
Do they even make stick shifts anymore?
Grew up driving a piece of shit with one……I'm guessing they are only still included in cars that are under 10k or over 100k..
If they ever get serious about kids not using cell phones or texting and driving, they will require everyone under 21 to drive stick….worked for me.

Re: Manual Transmission
Oh yes. All real men drive manuals. My first stick shift car was a '95 Ford Contour that had messed up synchros between 2nd and 3rd gear. I used to have to force it into 3rd (while hearing a nice crunch), or rev the shit out of the little 4-banger in 2nd gear, then shift straight to 4th.

Looked exactly like this:

I've never gone back to an automatic since that shitty ford. Its a travesty that so many car companies are phasing out manuals these days. It gives you better gas mileage (especially 6-speeds), more control over your car, and is much more fun to drive! Here's my current car... 6-Speed Audi A4 1.8 Turbo Quattro Sport:

Re: Manual Transmission
My 3 boys knew how to change a tire, change the oil, replace a motor before they got their license. They all had a standard transmission for their first vehicle. My daughter is 14 ( cheerleader) knows how to drive a standard transmission already and can change a tire and change the oil. My daughter is my fishing and hunting partner and can clean fish and deer ( field dress and quarter).
The point is everyone needs to know the basics. My daughter and I are currently rebuilding a 1967 mustang from the ground up. My dad didn't teach me shit... no way was I going to do that to my kids.

Re: Manual Transmission
My 63 year old mother can drive stick. Granted she grew up on a farm, but yeah. I learned to drive stick in my friend's car as a freshman in college. I guess that means I learned when I was 18/19.
A female friend of mine got a flat while I was in the car. She called her dad to come fix it. Her dad looked at me and said, "I'm surprised you don't know how to do this."
I looked at him and said, "I do know how to do this your daughter doesn't have a jack.""Any asshole can be a father, I want to be a champion." - The League
"Doc, your signature is hysterical." - Distracted

Re: Manual Transmission
I always wanted to drive a stick. Looks like a lot of fun. Fun cavman fact. When I was sixteen I went to take my drivers test in a car that was not equipped with hand controls. Yes a guy with no real use of his legs was using them to stab at the gas and break in hopes that I could pass. Needless to say I failed and the instructor was pretty upset with me for wasting her time.

Re: Manual Transmission
I have a stick in my Camaro. I test drove one with an automatic and hated it.
The most valuable skill in basketball is not the ability to convert difficult shots, but create easy ones.
