Re: Connecticut School Shooting
and this is why it's damn near impossible to have any idea what exactly happened for the first hours immediately after something like this
the media just snap-reports absolutely everything they hear without any care for accuracy. it's awful.
kid was proclaimed to be the murderer by damn near every news outlet, then it turns out he *might* just be the brother of the true killer. oh, and his mom/dad/others were also killed in the process. mass media shining yet again and making the situation 10x worse for the guy.

If the brother is innocent, I hope he sues the fuck out of the news outlets. His life is ruined

Re: Connecticut School Shooting
And this type of crime is exactly my point about gun control laws being pointless.
There are laws that tell us we can't have guns on school property. There are laws that tell us we can't use guns to murder people, or we will get an even more serious punishment than using some other method. And those laws did what to stop this man? Nothing.
Yet, a law telling a person he can't own a gun...now THAT would have stopped someone like him? No. Not even a little.
EDIT: And to the point that it is to "easy" to get a gun. How hard is it to get drugs? Not that hard. Why in the world would gun control laws that would largely mimic drug laws have any greater impact on how "easy" it is to get a gun that it does for drugs? No, you can't go to the local pharmacy and buy cocaine, but is it hard to buy cocaine? Similarly, you might not be able to go to the local store and buy a gun, but would it be hard to obtain a gun? No, it wouldn't. You would merely prevent those who wish to abide by the law from owning a gun. Someone who intends to murder a massive amount of people? He'll find it very easy to acquire a weapon.Last edited by Rich; 12-14-2012 at 04:39 PM.
Patiently waiting for the day I can finally say "Daniel Gibson is no longer a Cavalier." It will be glorious.

Re: Connecticut School Shooting
Schools need metal detectors and guards at the school. Whether it to breakup a fight, or spending time teaching kids the dangers of drugs, alcohol, violence and the consequences for people who partake in them. Society has got to get better, we have to do a better job, I just don't know how or where to start.
My heart aches for the victims and their families, it's impossible to comprehend how awful this truly is. I believe there should be more extensive background checks on guns, and the TYPE of guns that should be allowed to the public. A .223 caliber rifle should not be just floating around for people to say shoot up an elementary school with. It starts with people, I know guns don't hop up and shoot people but they also enable psychopaths to go on rampages such as this and tear families and communities apart.
We need to find a more common ground on well just about everything.Last edited by cdt; 12-14-2012 at 05:19 PM.

Re: Connecticut School Shooting
They pass through a metal detector, if they fail the door does not open. They then place their belongings in a tray that slides down to an attendant.

Re: Connecticut School Shooting
There's absolutely no way of finding a solution to these problems, and that's the ugly truth.
You're never going to eradicate guns in the US. You're never going to eradicate sociopaths.Just go hug your loved ones and mean it.Last edited by Apathy; 12-14-2012 at 05:50 PM.

Re: Connecticut School Shooting
World has went to hell in a handbasket. It's just scary to think how much more common these type of scenes are becoming. Growing up, I think the scariest thing I remember was the OKC bombings. After that, it was years before I remember something horrible happening. Now, it seems like every 3-4 months, we've got another killing spree/mass murder/something.
Just downright terrifying. Please draft Alex "What if Paul Pierce were a 7'1 white center?" Len
Don't care how Grant, just make the shit happen.
