    Default Ohio State FB Recruiting

I haven't seen a thread dedicated to this in RCF and I usually find myself sifting through the noise on Scout to find some useful information... I hope anyone on here who also likes to follow the recruiting trail finds some time to contribute here. For starters, I'll list the 2013 commits and their ratings..

They need some serious help at LB if they're thinking about realistically competing for a national championship. Good to see two early commits there. Would like to snag one more 4* or 5* though.

Jalin Marshall; Does he provide us a legitimate receiving threat?

I think so. He looked pretty damn good in the Army All-American game on Saturday and is a 5* recruit. He's got tremendous potential and can take a short slant to the house on any given play. He's no AJ Green, but rather a Desean Jackson type (not exactly).

Jalin won't be called on to be a deep receiving threat. He will work from the slot and be an outside "pitch-man". His role will be similar to what Corey "Philly" Brown was this year, but more running and less vertical routes.

It sounds like he caught onto the receiver position extremely well at the Under-Armour game down in Florida. The great thing is he has a very compact body and will be able to withstand the abuse a running back takes. I don't want to say he is our Percy Harvin because there has really only been, 1 Percy Harvin, but that is the idea behind Jalin. Option him into the backfield a lot, force defenses to worry about the perimeter and run inside dives with Hyde/Rod Smith/Brionte Dunn, or fake the dive and have option to the outside with guys like Marshall, Jordan Hall, Ezekiel Elliot.

The great thing about Ezekial Elliot and Jalin Marshall, is they can both be really dangerous threats from the slot or backfield as receivers.

Eli Apple? I get the feeling this guy is going to be a standout, lockdown corner. How couldn't he with that name?

After doing some research, he changed his last name this year from Woodard to Apple in honor of the man who raised him, Tim Apple.

There will be one more linebacker commit, but it's going to be 3* Chris Worley from Glenville. He's not a guy who I see in the LB rotation next year but could definitely contribute on special teams.

Depends on the definition of receiving threat.

I envision him in the slot moving around in a Harvin type role, getting plays specifically designed for him to get in space.

Having Smith and Brown on the outside another year is really going to be nice.

Names to keep an eye on with less than a month to signing day:

5* safety Vonn Bell (GA) - down to OSU, Alabama and Tennessee; visit on tap for this weekend

4* wide receiver Shelton Gibson (Cleveland Heights) - down to OSU, Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia; visit on tap for this weekend and should commit if his grades are in order

4* offensive tackle Cameron Hunt (CA) - soft commitment to Cal and considering them along with Oregon, Michigan and OSU; no visit to OSU yet but could be weekend before NSD

4* wide receiver/running back Cornelius Elder (TN) - considering OSU, Vanderbilt, UCLA and Ole Miss; visit on tap for this weekend and has an offer that doesn't appear to be commitable

4* running back Dontre Wilson (TX) - committed to Oregon; discussing possible visit to OSU with his father

3* offensive tackle Dan Skpper (CO) - soft commitment to Tennessee and considering them along with Ole Miss, Arkansas, Michigan and OSU; planning to visit on the 19th

3* wide receiver Ryan Timmons (KY) - considering Arkansas, Kentucky, Illinois and OSU; visit on tap for this weekend but OSU has not offered

3* linebacker Chris Worley (Glenville) - mentioned in a previous post; Buckeye lock

Of course, more names could emerge between now and NSD, but these are the primary names for Buckeye fans to keep an eye on.

I am pissed that they moved the spring game to Cincinnati this year. I was looking forward to going to the shoe to see a lot of these guys in action. I can still watch it on TV but I just love the atmosphere at the shoe. I am most interested in Joey Bosa and JT Barrett. Bosa looks like he might be able to get some serious playing time his freshman year. As for Barrett I hope he turns out to be the next great dual threat QB to play here at OSU.

Barrett and his torn ACL concern me some. I am really pumped for Jalin Marhsall. Looked good in the all star game. I think Ezekiel Elliot will have a nice career as well.

If we could land Gibson and Bell, that'd make for a sexcellent class. Gibson isn't a bad consolation prize for missing out on James quick.

I think '14 is when we're trying to really load up at OL.

It's his vision that sets him apart from the competition. He's got great eyes.
