Well, I would've posted in the winning vs. tanking thread, but it's gone to the back of the line...

It's not terrible to improve as a team. We shouldn't blatantly take away from our guys' confidence. But I don't think anything should be counted out. We could very well trade assets to trade up instead of having a lower first pick. Sure, tanking is one way to look at it...

Charlotte sucks, so they're one. Orlando is ill-determined to be two. Phoenix and Sacramento (3 and 4) are jocking for position. Minnesota (5) and New Orleans (6) seem set too. That's all the teams that really seem dead set to suck. Us, Washington, Detroit, Toronto, and Philly are currently out to prove we can go out and compete (pretentously). The real tanking begins in late March, early April folks. You're too early...

I wasn't sure where to put this, but this seemed as good of a place as any. This thread was started the night we beat the Hawks. We proceeded to lose the next 3 games to fall to 9-31.

Since then we've gone 11-7, or .611 over the last 18 games (a 50 win pace), .625 over the last 16, .636 over the last 11, .800 over the last 5 that included 4 games in 5 nights. We have also gone 9-2 (.818) in our last 11 games vs the east. We're basically playing well enough that had we played that way all season, we wouldn't just be looking for a playoff spot, we'd be looking for home court in the first round.

Win at the same percentage our last 24 games that we have won at the last 18 games and we'll finish with about 35 wins. Not so good for the tank, but it would certainly be a good sign for being a solid playoff team next year.

Ahh-tank not working well. Currently tied for 5th most ping pong balls with 3 other teams. keep this up we will be drafting 9th or higher. "when it seems like we are winning we are really losing again. Just haven't figured it out yet."

edit now tied for 4th with 5 teams with 20 wins with suns win

Am I the only one who sees how when we win, a team right by us likes to win too? Phoenix wins tonight, Sacto wins, and Detroit wins.

What a disaster: who would have that an incredibly lopsided trade and a waiver wire acquisition from the Wizards would screw up our chance on getting Noel or Len. These wins are bittersweet.
There is a tension, peculiar to basketball, between the interests of the team and the interests of the individual. The game continually tempts the people who play it to do things that are not in the interest of the group.

Neither of those guys are such game-changing talents that I'd rather see a promising team underachieve than start to understand how great they can be together.
Thanks everyone for the LeBron bets. All debts are paid on your behalves. I was happy to lose.

The white, american center (aka high chance of being a stiff) or the dude who just blew out his knee, whatever will we do!

These will stop if Kyrie is out for a good amount of time.

that's an optimistic way of looking at it.

i see the winning percentages and would say the cavs are all by their lonesome in 7th place. certainly room to move up or down.

it all feels like deja vu. just like last year when we thought the cavs would finish around 8th.

here's an optimistic thought -- later first-round picks have cheaper contracts. that's the best i can do here.

Well with the sentiment, after some offseaon additions, that we should make the playoffs next year (IF healthy) we need to establish the winning culture that we sort of failed to establish in the first half of the season. Detroit beat Washington tonight by 1. I'm more worried about the teams slightly ahead of us staying ahead of us than us losing enough to drop below some other teams.
And GS, Utah, and Houstan all lost tonight.

Also, with the assets we have, if there is one guy we deem an absolute fit for us available in the 3-6 range, I'm comfortable with our chances to swing a deal to get that guy.

If the Lakers sneak into the 8th seed, that ability becomes even greater

We absolutely NEED the Lakers to sneak into the playoffs. Falling too far in the lottery and not getting that Lakers pick will have long-reaching effects.

It's pretty obvious that this team is going to be a playoff team next season, barring injuries. This is our last good chance at a game changing talent in the lottery...after this draft, we will have to start reaching into our bag of assets to trade for impact guys.

I'm not convinced Otto Porter will fall to us if we're drafting 8th. We either need serious lotto luck, we need to stop winning NOW, or we need the Lakers pick so that we have more ammo to move around in the lottery to get our guy.

We're treading dangerous waters...even so, I can't help myself but cheer for these young kids every night. It's so bittersweet. These wins will mean absolutely nothing in two months' time.
