Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis
Not sure if this is confirmed, but I thought Selby and Kyrie were pretty good friends, not positive on this though

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis
"It's been quite enjoyable to watch some of the nation's elite point guards go at each other. Most notably, the three-way battle between Josh Selby (Baltimore/Lake Clifton), Joe Jackson (Memphis/White Station) and Kyrie Irving (Elizabeth, N.J./St. Patrick) has had all onlookers captivated.
I think Selby's played the best during the practices I've attended. He can score, and his athletic ability is a great asset. A relentless attacker, Selby doesn't stop until he gets to the rim.
Irving is smooth and knows how to play the position. He makes difficult plays looks easy with his court awareness. Duke needs a point guard who can set up people, create for himself and play hard-nosed defense. Irving does all of those things."

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis
So Walton, Gibson, and Ellington grouped together are now...what...a 12 million dollar expiring contract?

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis
I really like this. Speights will immediately play a big role in our woefully inadequate frontcourt rotation. He's actually a pretty decent player.
Selby is also an interesting pickup with a lot upside. He has a lot of talent and is still only 21. A contender like Memphis just wouldn't have afforded him the opportunity to develop that he'll have available to him here. He should definitely get some opportunities with the Charge if nothing else.
Once again being willing to take on money gets us some solid assets.

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis
Selby can defend the PG position which is more then can be said for Gibson.

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis
So, we traded DJ Kennedy and John Leuer for Jeremy Pargo, Josh Selby, Wayne Ellington, Mareese Speights, a 2014 2nd rounder, presumably a 2016 2nd rounder and cash.
We needed a back up PG, a wing, and a big man down low.. this trade addressed all 3 without strapping us for the future.
Speights and Ellington are gonna be easy to flip, as well.

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis
Don't sleep on Speights. He is a decently athletic big with an ok jumper. He cab play some center and light might go on with some coaching (Z?) The others are filler, but I have always felt Speights has potential that Z-bo was blocking. He should instantly get minutes here as the first big off the bench or starting at center.

The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a multiplayer trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers, slicing more than $6 million off their payroll to get under the luxury tax threshold, league sources told ESPN.com.
A trade call to finalize the deal is scheduled for Tuesday.
The Grizzlies would send big man Marreese Speights, guard Wayne Ellington and guard Josh Selby to the Cavs for big man Jon Leuer. There are also believed to be a future draft pick involved in the deal.
Reducing payroll both short- and long-term has been a goal of the new Grizzlies ownership and led to other trade talks involving Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph over the past several weeks.
Speights averages 6.5 points and 4.7 rebounds as a key big man off the bench for the Grizzlies but makes $4.2 million this season and has a player option at $4.5 million for next season. The Grizzlies owe Gay, Randolph and Marc Gasol nearly $50 million alone next year.
Ellington is averaging 5.5 points in 40 games off the bench.
The Cavs were able to make the deal because they had more than $10 million in cap space in which to absorb Speights. That would likely mean the Grizzlies would receive a trade exception of more than $6 million that would be good for a year.
Selby has only played in 10 games this season, averaging two points. Leuer has played in nine games, averaging 2.4 points.
Solid deal all the way around.

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis
Fantastic trade. Solid backup wing, PG, and big man. And a draft pick. CG wins again.
Plus, Selby is godly in 2k
