Alright, here's the pronunciation from a Jason Lloyd article from Friday:

Karasev (pronounced Ku-RAH-sev) spent the summer playing in Russia’s top professional league, but left the team just long enough in June to fly to New York for the NBA Draft. Grant, however, spent draft night in Cleveland.

His name, in Russian, is spelled Серге́й Карасёв. Proper pronunciation in English would be close to this: syehr-gee kah-rah-SYEV. That's how he says it in the video, but he speaks pretty fast. Я говорю на небольшом русском языке.

*Edit* Worth nothing that in the video, his dad says him name at around the 1:05 mark, and it sounds like syehr-gay. This is just a Russian grammatical issue of declining nouns. In different situations, his first name could be said syehr-gee, syehr-gay, syehr-geem, syehr-gay-ah and probably more ways. But syehr-gee is the proper anglicization. Just in case anyone was wondering.

So if I'm visiting Russia, how would I ask for a prostitute that's into anal beads?

Can't tell from the written pronunciations or from the ultra fast clip of him saying it. Is the "gee" like Alonzo Gee, or is it a hard g?

From what I've gathered from the video: It's like this

Ser-gee-ay (try to make the gee and ay blend together, like gyay)

Ke-ara-sef The E in Ke is very quiet, and a very short syllable. kyerasef

I feel when he plays bad, we'll call him SerGay Karasshole

I hate to drag this on, but "Sergey" is just two syllables, not three...syehr-gee, like DrEnoch said. The last vowel is just one plain sound. It's slightly longer than the first vowel, but that's it.

The first two vowels in "Karasev" are just the bland "uh" vowel, like in "up." It's the last one that's tricky and doesn't occur in English. It's about half way between "e" (as in "save") and "o" (correct me if I'm wrong DrEnoch).

Indeed, it is two syllables. syehr-gee (hard G). Technically the й in Серге́й is a consonant (the "y" or "yuh" sound) but since it comes after a stressed vowel (and end of the word) it is largely ignored . syehr-GEE.

The "a" vowels in "Карасёв" (Karasev) are "ahh" sounds, and not "uhh." The ё is a vowel normally pronounced "yo" or "yoh," but for complicated grammatical reasons it is, in this case, pronounced "yeh." kah-rah-SYEV

If anyone is still trying to figure out how to say his name, just go to google translate, paste Серге́й Карасёв in, and hit the "speaker" icon in the bottom right corner. I'm sure plenty of announcers are going to butcher his name, but it is syehr-GEE kah-rah-SYEV.
