Vecsey-Cavs to pursue Rashard Lewis??
During the postgame discussion on NBA TV last night Peter Vecsey said he's heard strong word that the Cavs are going to go after Rashard Lewis in a sign and trade this offseason.
I know many don't believe anything Vecsey says but he's usually more accurate and more informed than a lot of other national writers who mention possible moves.
Personally, I would have no problem with Lewis and he does represent a huge talent addition. The question I have is that his best position is SF and that would then mean the Cavs two best players are best suited to play the same position. One would then be forced to play most of their minutes out of position or at a position where their skills aren't best suited.
2 summers ago the Cavs also went after the best available player who might not have been the best fit in Larry Hughes. I just hope this wouldn't be that case again.
The Cavs could find the salaries to work out a sign and trade but it would be very hard to find the right and enough talent to make it work for Seattle. Ferry will have done a great job if he can.

Re: Vecsey-Cavs to pursue Rashard Lewis??
I think cap wise Gooden and Newble would work. Much as everyone wants to dump Snow and/or Hughes, Seattle won't take either... but maybe they'd take Drew and Ira's expiring contract?
As for him at SF... I think LeBron could slide to SG without too much trouble. Lewis would sure bring some offense and 3 pt range... unless he was just a product of the Sonics running and gunning system.By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest;
Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Re: Vecsey-Cavs to pursue Rashard Lewis??
vecsey is no more informed then any writer I've ever read. he loves trade rumors and reports them as fact or "from sources", but his percentage of accuracy is horrific. just this offseason I've read that Laker management had a deal in place for Jermaine which is why Kobe stopped demanding trades publically. Then he said Jermaine wanted to go to New York. Then he said that the Knicks had a deal lined up for Kobe. They can't all happen.
He throws massive amounts of crap against the wall regarding every possible rumor and outcome, and just based on volume.... some of it will stick. on the whole, nothing he says happens except on the occasions where other "national media" are reporting it as well. if nobody else is rushing to print this, then it's obviously another creation of a lazy writer who needs to fill space.

Re: Vecsey-Cavs to pursue Rashard Lewis??
Translation: the Cavs are staying as far away from Lewis this summer as possible.Peter Vecsey said he's heard strong word that the Cavs are going to go after Rashard Lewis in a sign and trade this offseason.
Vecsey is the same guy that said in print that he has league sources who swear that leBron will opt out of his deal in 2012, one year before it expires in 2013. Just one problem with that. LeBron's deal expires in 2011. He can opt outin 2010. Two years off there, Vecsey. On top of all that, who are these league sources that can tell so far into the future? Ms. Cleo? Is she now a league source? Isiah Thomas? Doing some wishful thinking for the Knicks?

This is all just heresay......
Neither Lebron or Lewis would play at guard. We'd be playing small ball with one of them at power forward depending on the matchup.
We all want LeBron in the post more and a player like Lewis may allow this.

any subject to a thread that starts with "vecsey" and doesn't end in "is fired for imcompetance in journalism" should just be locked immediately and moved to the garbage.

I think we've already beaten this topic down...
Agree with the previous comments... Vecsey is no source...

When Stephen A. confirms it, that's when RCF KNOWS it's legit...
We don't listen to Sam Smith or Peter Vescey.... We do follow Stephen A. like the gospel..

Re: Vecsey-Cavs to pursue Rashard Lewis??
One of the nice things about being in Korea is that I have no temptation to buy the New York Post and read Pete V on the way home from Columbia. I've read Pete's B.S. for three decades or so, and I wouldn't even grace his words with the adjective "hearsay" because that suggests what he writes MIGHT be true. This guy just makes it up. He's also corruptible. A couple decades ago he got caught pimping for the New Jersey Nets in return for a sweetheart real estate deal with one of the Net owners. Personally, I wouldn't want the Cavs to go after Lewis for reasons stated by many others in this thread, but I gain consolation from the fact that Pete is suggesting that it might happen.

Re: Vecsey-Cavs to pursue Rashard Lewis??
There are always crazy rumors coming out of the NY media but that doesn't mean they all are reported by Vecsey. He's not always right and does throw out wild stuff but he's actually a little more credible than many other writers who throw out info based on no real info.. Doesn't say much for some other writers I guess.
Vecsey seems to have calmed down on the wild rumors recently. It doesn't seem he's as bad as he used to be.
Just because something is reported and doesn't get done doesn't mean it wasn't discussed or pursued.
Lewis has been discussed by fans but this is the first time I recall his name actually being reported in connection with the Cavs. Certainly doesn't mean it's going to get done.Last edited by NarlCavs; 06-13-2007 at 05:53 PM.

Really? I heard from a credible source that we were trading Hughes, Gooden, and Ira Newble for Lewis and the rights to Durant/Oden.

And I seriously doubt Ferry is talking about major trades while we are in the NBA finals.
