Well the numbers indicate the starters got owned, and that Mo Williams in particular had a bad day. We played a celtics team that did not play Ray Allen or Kevin Garnett.

The rubber meets the road when the C's return for the regular season game.

Default Re: Shaq still learning playbook

It's pretty uneducated view to loom at Shaq and Andy and come to the conclusion that they can't play together because neither of them is a big threat from outside the paint. Easy answer to come up with when you put little thought into it.

Fact is place LeBron and Shaq with a combination of shooters and cutters and you have the right mix. Mo, West, Parker, Gibson and to a lesser extent Moon give us threats from the perimeter whilst Varejao and Parker give us cutters who don't need the ball to be effective. Obviously there is going to be a period of time for our new three rotation players to get used to what spots they are required to be in and their new team mates instincts (primarily LeBron). So there may be some breakdown primarily early on.

If this is a problem heading into the new year then we need to look into this.

I was more shocked to hear that we even have a playbook let alone that Shaq is still learning it.

I'd be surprised if we actually ran a single play against the Celtics, other then occasionally a guard calling for a pick. Doc Rivers admitted that he didn't use anything beyond his basic P&R package.

IMO, like last year, we're just going to have to wait until the games start to count to see what's what. Before rattling off 66 wins last year, the Cavs had an ugly pre-season.

At least we now have one player on the team other then LeBron who can beat his defender 1v1....

Shaq had a very nice preseason. Let the haters hate and let the skeptics have their doubts. He looks to be in good shape and has done a good job working in the paint on both ends of the floor. Everybody knows he's not going to be the Shaq of 2000 that's a no-brainer. But if this article holds true and we see him performing better in the regular season, we're in for a treat. Any way you look at it' he's gonna provide a solid 20 MPG off the bench per night.

Found this on WaitingForNextYear

it's funny

Shaq gets cheat sheet from Cavs

Quote:
So it appears that Shaq is having trouble picking up on all the different offensive sets and plays that the Cavaliers run. You may have read this from Brian Windhorst’s column-

With the start of the regular season less than a week away, the Cavaliers new center is admitting he’s still having some trouble learning the offense. It is a different system from what’s he been used to during much of his career and he’s struggling a bit remembering and executing some of the plays.

“It is vital that I start to memorize the plays” O’Neal said. “I’ve been used to a certain system for 17 years so I have to work on that. I still have a few days before we start.”

Apparently the Cavaliers were listening. They have made Shaq a cheat sheet of his responsibilities during every offensive set. It is not known at this time if Shaq intends to wear the sheet on a wristband like an NFL quarterback, or if he will try and memorize it. In an exclusive to WFNY, we give you the Shaq cheat sheet.

Learning Mike Brown's offensive playbook is less an intellectual effort and more an inner journey. Like the sound of one hand clapping.
