He was never a smart basketball player and got stuck into a tweener zone. Not strong enough or good enough from 3 to play the 4 and too slow/lack of dribbling to play the 3.
Cavs have essentially reduced his role to the 4 only off the bench and since the NBA is now going tweener all the time it's helped him solidify the role. In the beginning of the year you saw the Cavs trying to iso him which was a mistake and now they only get the ball to him on the move or he only has to do one move (shoot or attack the basket).
The simplified role has allowed some other areas to shine like defense which was a big surprise. He's taken over the RJ role well with Wade being our Iggy
I mentioned this exactly when we signed him.
Jeff Green has failed because he is not a alpha or even a top 3 on your team guy. He has always been signed based on his huge physical gifts, never his lack of mental gifts.
Here with a reduced and simplified role I thought he would shine, which he has. He is asked to do very little except what he is best at.
Still love the signing and I called it our best signing in the off season (that was before we grabbed Wade of course)
